Marie sighed. "How many more?"

Toby and Marie stood in a dress shop, looking for a dress for Marie.

"Just be patient. All these dresses are trash, anyway." Toby continued to flip through hangers.

"What do you mean? All of these are perfectly fine." Marie pulled a light pink sundress out and held it up.

"Yeah, fine for going to the beach or to the cafe for a tea." Toby scoffed.

"Since when did you have knowledge about fashion?" Marie questioned Toby.

"I just know what we have to wear." Toby continued to focus on finding a dress.

"Are you sure this is even a ball? How are 16 year-olds like us and Tommy even allowed to go to one?" Marie wondered.

Toby stopped moving through racks and looked at Marie. "Well, it's not REALLY a ball, it's more like a...a very special gala."

Marie smirked. "You mean ga-luh?

Toby frowned. "No, it's pronounced gay-luh."

"No, ga-luh."

"Gay-luh."

"Fine fine, whatever. Well if it's a "gay-luh", then why do we have to be so fancy? What's so wrong about wearing a sundress to it?" Marie leaned against the rack.

Toby paused his search and looked at Marie again. "Gala's are supposed to be fancy, Marie. You can't wear a breezy sundress to it. You've got to wear something like...a mix in between a gown and a party dress."

Marie giggled. "Good luck finding that here."

Toby sighed. "Why haven't you guys got any fancy dresses here?"

"If you're looking for more styled dresses, there's a rack on the other side of the store, sweethearts." An old lady appeared next to them and pointed to the other wall of the store where more fancier dresses were.

"Oh, thank you." Toby smiled at the employee and grabbed Marie's hand and dragged her to the rack.

"At least help me look for your dress, I'm not the one wearing it." Toby told Marie.

Marie smiled. "Fine, I'll look."

The two teenagers searched through the entire rack, until Marie had a mountain of dresses in her face.

"Ok, try them on now." Toby said excitedly.

Marie raised her eyebrows. "All of these? Seriously?"

"Yes! C'mon go!" Toby pushed her into the dressing room and waited outside.

Marie stared at the pile of sequins and sparkles. "Guess I'll try this one first."

"Hey Toby?" Marie asked as she was putting on the dress.

"Mhm?" Toby replied while looking at his phone.

"If this gala is at a church, how are they even funding it? Don't churches not normally do that kind of stuff?"

"It's a fundraiser for the children's choir that will be singing there. That's why we can go. And why we can afford to go, other than Tommy telling them about his followers."

Marie thought for a minute then nodded to herself. "Ok, that makes sense. But is it like a black and white gala?"

Toby looked up and stared at the dressing room door. "What's that?"
