Within a few seconds Ada had escaped certain death, and she left a small gift behind. The grenade was spewing dust in to about two feet of air, including me. The virus. Piers and Chris had time to get out, they thought i was right behind them. Stay under control, stay under control. I was trying to heal, which is hard enough. The dust that continued to come was not helpful. I could feel myself losing the battle to stay human. It took me years to train myself enough to control the healing from the testing. In one final attempt to heal, I gave everything I could. The virus inched up my arms then receded. I crawled away from the immediate area gasping for the air around me. The silence was broken by Chris who I didn't know was standing there.
"What the hell was that?"
I guess it's time to come clean.
I woke up draped over Piers' back somewhere outside the building we were just in. Pier's hadn't noticed I had woken up so he continued his conversation with Captain.
"You're her best friend, right? What was that?"
I silently begged he wouldn't tell, this is something I need to tell Captain.
"Sorry Captain, but that isn't really my business. She can tell you when she wakes up."
They continued walking and to make sure I wasn't suspicious I stayed "asleep" for a little while longer. When I finally decided it was ok to really wake up, I opened my eyes and was blinded by the sun.
"Piers," I tried to speak normally but it ended up coming out as a croak.
"You can let me down now."
"Are you sure, Kat? We saw what happened."
"Yes Piers I'm fine."
I lied a little, but I don't want to be babied and carried around.
"Katrina you owe us some answers."
The Captain was attempting to come off sounding calm, but he was probably afraid of my capabilities. Lucky for him, theres nothing to be afraid of. I spoke and they listened as we continued through the streets.
"My parents were apart of the BSAA, they stopped doing field missions by the time I was born but they remained connected. When I was fourteen Wesker had me kidnapped. I wasn't very special, just intelligent. Wesker had no reason to kidnap me. When I arrived at his secret lab, I was introduced to about seven other girls. Throughout all of Wesker's human experimentation, only around that many survived. And Ada was one of those survivors."
I stopped once we encountered a j'avo, who was dead on the ground within seconds.
"Wesker favored me above the others for some reason unknown to me. That made me lucky, well somewhat lucky. He raped and tortured me multiple times during my stay. Just to see what kinds of things I could withstand after he," I got a bit choked up for a second, scared of Chris' reaction but continued.
"Wesker mutated me. I was sort of like Piers. He tested out a strain of the C-virus on the other girls and most of them died. When he mastered it, he shot it in to my blood. That's why I have a scar on my chest. He gave me the perfect amount so I didn't exactly mutate, but I became a better human. I can see and hear better, but most importantly I can heal. It took years to be able to control my healing, but now I can do it well, like when I breathed in the virus today. Wesker tried to make me help him, but after the torture I took his notes on my virus and ran. I took Ada with me."
The secret is out. Now Piers knows the rest of the story, and Chris knows everything. He began to fire questions at me all wondering whether or not I was dangerous. The answer to everyone was a "no". To finish the story and the questions it took hours. And we are almost halfway to our destination.
We have had two days of rest which is quite a lot this early in the mission. Time was ticking, so none of us even considered wasting another night.
The city was surrounded by a man-made river and the bridge connecting us to where we need to go was halfway demolished. This was planned in the middle of reconstruction after the last attack, which is perfect timing for whoever didn't want us getting in.
We stopped to check the maps we had saved before the mission and they showed that there was a small walking bridge a little ways away from us. After we cross that, we are no longer the least bit safe.
