Marinette's POV

It was Monday and sadly the weekend was over.  This time though, when I went to school I would be seventeen.  Just like always Adrien would pick me up and we would go to school together talking about what we did over the weekend.  But we both hung out for the whole weekend-

I giggled at the thought as I sat down for lunch waiting for him with Alya, Nino, and Chloe.

I looked across at Adrien getting his lunch, he looked a little off-

He had dark circles under his eyes and his hair was shaggier than usual.

He told me that his father had been putting a lot of stress on him. I just didn't realise how much until now.  I gave him a sympathetic smile and waved to him.  As if he was a puppy looking for his owner, his face lit up at the sight of me.  I giggled.

Alya rolled her eyes at our lovey doves interaction.  Chloe snorted with her.  That's when it was my turn to roll my eyes at the two of them.

Chloe, had been one of my best friend since kindergarten.  She had a crush on Adrien too, but she didn't mind anymore since her soulmate was some really famous movie star..? I think? In all honesty when she told me I was to busy looking at Adrien who was look at me and-

Yeah I know I'm a terrible friend.

Both of my best friends continued to laugh at me.  I simply brushed them off, crossed my legs, and patiently waited for Adrien.

I didn't care what Alya and Chloe thought. I loved that damn smile.  Every time I saw it, I just got butterflies all over again.

Blushing, I picked up my fork and was about to dig in when I saw a ♫ music note on the back of my hand.

'Weird,' I thought.  'When did I draw that?'

I started rubbing it as Alya and Chloe started talking about how ugly Lila's boots were today.

I gave them both a look before agreeing with them.  She was wearing bubble gum pink shoes to match me, and to try and get closer to Adrien.  Her attempts were fruitless though because Adrien could care less, unless I was wearing them.

Lila really was a pain in the ass. I'm 99% sure that she cut her hair to look like mine too. That's when I started growing mine out.

I kept rubbing the music note vigorously, it wasn't coming off. No smearing, no nothing. The symbol stood absolutely perfectly on my skin.

"M," Alya said, "You know soulmate marks don't come off in 24 hours, not even the ones you put on your own hand."

A soulmate mark? No. No. No. It couldn't be... could it?

No, stop that Marinette! It's nothing.

I probably drew on my hand unconsciously without thinking. That's all it was.

Adrien sat down as I continued to peer at my hand.  Adrien gave me a fake pout to get my attention- I laughed and booped him on the nose.

Other than that lunch went pretty normal, Alya and Nino who had an on again off again relationship as soulmates were breaking up. (Again.) At lunch in front of all of us.

Something about Nino writing a giant curse word using "The String" so it also appeared on Alya's palm-

At around 12:00-1:00 PM the ♫ note completely vanished off my skin as I went to science.  Oh god. This would be awkward. I looked at the back of my hand, inspecting to make sure it was totally gone before sitting down next to Luka.

Turns out the seats we chose after winter break were permanent.  Tough luck for both of us.  I sat down next to him, awkwardly.

He gave me a nod, still brushing his blue bangs out of his cerulean eyes.

Once the lesson began no one could pay attention. Our teacher's dull monotonous voice droned on for some time. Resting my heads on my hand I looked around at my peers to see what they were doing when my eyes settled on Luka, horizontal from me.

He paused, looking at the back of his hand too.

I wondered why... Nothing was on it. It was completely blank.  He sighed before raising his hand to answer the next question.

——————

We had thirty seconds before the bell and everyone was gathered by the door with their stuff.

Luka and I had barely talked.  Probably for the best.

The guilt of what I said about his dad from last week was eating me up though.  I never should have said that.  I needed to make things right.

As I was thinking these thoughts, Luka had gotten out a black sharpie and drawn a "☾" on his right backhand.

A crescent shaped moon? That was the symbol for famous rockstar, Jagged Stone.

He was my favorite singer of all time.

I didn't realise we had the same taste.  I shrugged feeling even more guilty for not apologizing.

As the bell rang, we walked out of the classroom, me tailing behind him trying to rack up the courage and say something.

'HURRY BEFORE HE SEES YOU STALKING HIM!' My brain alarmed me but-

It was too late.

Luka turned on his heel with a sigh almost knocking me over.  I know this shouldn't have been my first thought but it was: 'Damn.  He was really tall.'

6'-0" I think... I was 5'-2" and Adrien was 5'-11".

Not that any of that matters...

He was wearing an open blue hoodie, with a white t-shirt too.

"What is it, Marinette? You've been stalking me for the past two hallways."

"I-I uh.." I was speechless. I looked down toying with my hands when I froze in shock.  I rubbed my eyes and blinked several times at the back of my right hand.

"Marinette?" He questioned.

I couldn't even focus on him or the other voices in the hall.  It was as if time froze itself.  I swear my heart felt like it had plunged into my stomach.  I held my breath as looked at the back of my right hand to find a crescent shaped mark planted there.
