Chapter Twenty-Nine: Their Onward

Nobody's POV

"L-LUKA! WAIT! STOP! PLEASE!"

But it was too late.  Luka ran past Marinette and Adrien and disappeared into the night.

Marinettte tried to run after him but he was too fast. Her tracks and feet became heavier and slower as her feet finally skidded to a stop on the ground.

Breathing heavily- Marinette gasped as she looked out into the night.  Reaching into dead air.

Adrien sped up behind her to catch up to her.  Marinette's head snapped around as she heard the familiar footsteps of her ex-boyfriend. 

"Adrien..." she looked at him sternly. 

But when she looked at him her face softened. 

He looked broken.

Marinette sighed raising her hand to his cheek as she-

Luka's POV

I should've known. I should've known.

In what world would I get the girl?  I felt tears prick in my eyes in anger and pain.

How did I let my guard down like that? The rising lump in my throat felt like it was melting all the flesh around it as it continued to lift up until it reached the tip of my tongue.

I let out a sob as I ran and ran.

Me or a supermodel? Why did I ever think she would choose me?

I breathed in and out shakily trying to get a grip of reality and try to think rationally.  But I couldn't.  I couldn't without her.

I sighed sitting near the lovelock bridge we kissed at.  I leaned into the test of the trickling water below me that seemed to play its own melody.  I saw the water laugh eland gurgle as it seeped and squeezed through the rocks.

Touching my lips lovingly I remembered every single moment with her.  I didn't even know that "her" was actually right behind me.

"Marinette... I saw- I saw Adrien with the flowers and... I don't know... would you be happier with him?"

"No... Luka..." she tried with tears brimming in her eyes.

A tear slipped down my cheek too as I continued letting a sob slip out.  I shuddered at the cold breeze filling our senses as I tried again.

"You loved him even after you found out we were soulmates-"

"YEAH BECAUSE A SOULMATE DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING- I FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU FOR YOU! NOT BECAUSE YOU WERE MY SOULMATE! JUST LIKE YOU DID WITH ME!" She countered back.

In the moment mine and Marinette's eyes lit up.  The only difference was Marinette looked down as she said these next words.  Our bodies were so close together that I could feel the heat, the sweat, and the tears.

"O-or is-is it that you just don't love me? A-Anymore..."
