NOBODY P.O.V

Meredith uncurled herself and scooted closer to the edge of the bed, letting her bare feet touch the hardwood, waiting for Derek to come back. It was all a blur of automatic gestures and swirling thoughts in the quick minutes he was away while she recomposed herself, and she had no idea what he wanted to say that required Bailey to be in the other room. What Meredith didn't expect though was Derek coming to stand in front of her and kiss her senseless.

He towered over her, his firm hands cupping her cheeks with a force so primal and raw that sent a shiver down Meredith's spine. She stretched even more, deepening the kiss, her turn to lose her fingers in his curls, massaging his scalp, pulling him as closer as it was humanly possible.

They were panting as they pulled away, their foreheads mashed together, their eyes shut as they started breathing again; they were so close their eyelashes could touch.

"If you ever see the white, welcoming light..." Meredith whispered, opening her eyes, seeing Derek's blurred blue ones staring back at her just as intensely.

"Don't go there either." He smiled, but it was almost forced. The only way Meredith knew she'd get another smile out of him was kissing him, so she did it.

It was Derek who reversed their positions, lowering his hands under Meredith's thighs, then he lifted her up, their kiss still unbroken. He sat back on the bed, Meredith now sitting on his lap and straddling him, their bodies as closer as their clothes allowed them to, needing to feel this connection as they kept kissing.

"I'm not going anywhere." Meredith whispered, rubbing Derek's stubble with her thumb, then brushing his curls back into place.

"I'm not going anywhere either." He chocked back, and the smile he rewarded her with was more than sincere.

They sealed this unspoken promise with one more kiss, this time slower and less desperate, dissolving it in a light hug. Losing Adele brought about much deeper losses, and for the moment they didn't want to remember, they just wanted to keep kissing.

"Do you know when your sister and the kids are coming back from their shopping spree downtown?" Meredith murmured in his neck, nuzzling her nose there, basking in the overwhelming scent of Derek he radiated from that spot, selfishly trying to push away the dark thoughts from her mind.

"Could be dinnertime, if I know my sister well enough." Derek chuckled, his turn to sniff Meredith's hair and sigh in bliss.

Derek felt Meredith's slightly cold hands creep under his t-shirt, tracing the defined contours of his spine, kneading the tense muscles there, as he did the same on her smooth skin. She was getting warmer and warmer by the minute, and she felt perfect like this, as he held her close. His body reacted automatically as her lips began kissing the underside of his jaw, ignoring the prominent stubble already growing there, then moving up to his earlobe.

If he needed an invitation to proceed further, Meredith offered it to him on a silver platter as she took off his t-shirt in a fluid motion, her smile turning mischievous as she let her long fingers roam over his now bare chest.
