Meredith P.O.V

Derek and I shot up and raced down the corridor to the Girls' bedroom

We burst into the room, flicking the light on and were met with the sight of our daughters huddled together on Maddie's bed away from the broken window

Derek and I rushed to their sides and pulled them both tight between us

"It's ok baby girls mama and daddy are here" Derek whispered into Maddie's hair

Lexie, who was normally the bravest and most outgoing, had her head buried into my chest and was whimpering softly.

"What happened Sweetheart?" I asked Lex softly when she removed her face from my chest.

"Scary mama" She whispered, looking up at me with tear filled blue eyes that broke my heart to see

I glanced over at Derek who was desperately trying to calm madilyn. She was clutching onto him with a death grip and sobbing into his shirt

"Da- da w-window gots smashed wiv a bwick and den dere was mean laughin and we gots scareded" Lex blurted, leaning into her sister and hugging her back

Just then, I noticed there was a brick with a note on it laying in a pile of broken glass

I got up cautiously, and made my way over to the dressing up box to find a pair of surgical gloves that they used when they wanted to play surgery with their toys.

I pulled the gloves on and stepped over the glass to pick up the note. It read

Roses are Red
Violets are blue
I'd check on your baby
if I were you

My heart stopped when I read the note. I dropped it and sprinted down the corridor to the Master bedroom

Bailey was happily sleeping in his bassinet, completely undisturbed.
I frantically searched the room, looking for another note or something that didn't look right

When I didn't find anything, I picked up the sleeping baby and hurried back to the twin's room seeing a worried Derek being completely caged in by the girls.

"Hey what did the note say?... I wanted to come after you but I'm sorta trapped" He asked when he saw me

I couldn't stop shaking as I sat down on the bed next to Derek and the girls

"Mer?"

"I-I-I The note s-said Bailey-" I cut myself off by bursting into tears, clutching onto my baby as tightly as I could, rocking backwards and forwards whilst I cried.

I felt Derek lean into me as his arms were full and tried to put his arm around me. I rested my head in his side

When I finally lifted my head out of Derek's side, I noticed that all our children had fallen back to sleep.
Derek picked up both the girls with ease and Carried them to our bed, it remaining unsaid that they were going to sleep with us tonight. I pulled of the gloves I was wearing and brought Bailey's bassinet as close to the bed as possible, before kissing the twins on the forehead and eventually falling asleep.
