Meredith P.O.V

"You ready Mer?" Called my husband from the front door of our dreamhouse. It was my first day back at work since I'd had Bailey and I'd been stressing all week about it.
Sure I was excited to stick my hands in a brain again, I'd missed the rush I got from Standing over an open patient in an O.R, the feeling of blood on my hands or the thrill of a trauma in the ER; but my baby boy was only 8 weeks old.

I couldn't help but feel like my mother, so desperate to get back to work I'm leaving my baby boy in day care all by himself. I dont want to miss a second of his life and I'm terrified of him having a huge milestone when Derek and I aren't there to see it.

He's been trying to smile, I can tell by the strange expressions he makes when we say do something funny, and I'm pretty sure he'll start laughing for the first time soon after.
I sighed because there was nothing else I could do to stall our departure, and made my way downstairs to meet my husband. He smiled and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, instantly diminishing all my fears, and replacing them with a warm and safe feeling that only he seemed to be able to provide.

We climed into the car and Derek put on his seatbelt
"Are we all buckled?" He called to the girls in the back, even though he strapped them in himself.
"Yes Daddyyy!!" They cried simultaneously, bouncing up and down in their booster seats

"What about you mama? Are you all buckled?" He said, giving me a smouldering look that took my breath away
Lexie gasped and pointed at me "DADDY MAMA DOESN'T HAVE HER BELT ON!" She cried as though it was the worst thing she could possible imagine anyone doing.
"Oh no Lex! Why don't I help mama with that" Derek said, smirking as he leaned over the centre console.
He very slowly ran his hand over my thigh, his fingertips brushing over the apex of my thighs. I gasped and felt my panties get drenched. He let out a slow and husky laugh before grabbing the belt and pushing it into the hole.
As he was returning to his seat, he pressed himself up against me, his hand teasing my now hard nipple.

"Buckle up Dr. Shepard because later I'm taking you for a ride" He whispered Huskily in my ear, his voice full of lust and wanting. I couldn't help but press my lips onto his, my hands immediately going to the short curls at the base of his neck that always made him go crazy. He moaned into my mouth, both of us forgetting about the children in the backseat.

"Bails, dey always doin this, yous get used to it doe" Maddie sighed

"Yeah bay, dey always kissin coz dey's in love" Agreed Lexie

Derek and I broke away, laughing at our daughters' words before Derek started the car and we drove off towards the ferry.

                                                                        

As soon as we arrived at the hospital, Derek was paged to the chief's office, leaving me to take the kids to day care. Normally I'd complain about him leaving me to do this by myself, as I was sure somebody would have to drag me away from my baby. However, I'd been meaning to check in with Richard to see how he was holding up. I know Adele's death was hard on him and he was throwing himself into work.

I sighed and climbed into the elevator that would lead to Day care, thinking of how I would possibly go on if Derek died. I wasn't sure it was possible to breathe without him, let alone raise two kids. I've tried to live without him before and it didnt work. I quickly banished all those thoughts from my mind as I felt myself tearing up.

The elevator dinged and the doors opened to reveal a smiling Alex Karev.
"Uncle Alex!" Said Maddie, running to give her uncle a hug with Lexie just behind her.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, knowing he liked to spend this time just before work with a certain intern that he was seeing.

"Umm well Shepard texted me and said you might need to be dragged away kicking and screaming and he wasn't going to make it" He said with a slight smile.
I shrugged before walking with him down to corridor.
As soon as we reached the door, the twins took off in the direction of Sofia, who was digging through the dressing up box. Callie and Arizona's had used a sperm donor around the time we had the girls so they were pretty much the same age.

After a lot of panicking and fuss, Alex managed to pry the baby carrier out of my hands and hand over my baby boy to the Day care manager before pulling me out of the room before I could protest.

"Hey! What-" He pulled me into a room off the corridor which I assume was a supply closet.

"I'm in love with her" He blurted out as soon as he had shut the door

"Okay slow down" I said "Way too much just happened in the space of like a couple of seconds for me to process this okay? Start from the top"
"The intern I've been sorta seeing, Jo, we started this thing where we weren't serious and just meeting up every now and then for sex and stuff, But mer she's amazing. She's strong and confident and jaw-droppingly beautiful, its like my world lights up when I see her and I can't help but smile" he says with so much awe and love.

I gulped back the frog that had formed in my throat and willed the tears in my eyes to dissapear. Oh he was in love alright.

"Then what are you waiting for?" I  said encouragingly, "If you love someone, don't waste time hiding your feelings, or being with other people, I made that mistake once and it's the biggest regret I have"

"Wait so you think I should tell her?" He asked again, obviously still apprehensive
"YES!! Haha I can't believe it, Alex evil spawn Karev's got himself a girlfriend" I teased, beyond happy that Alex had found someone he truly cared about.

"Well Meredith Dark and Twisty Shepard is giving out relationship advice now" he teased right back

I was about to bite back with another remark when our pagers blarred
"Ugh its 911, 3 car pile up on the freeway" Said Alex, as the two of us rushed out of the closet.

A/N OK BIT OF A FILLER BUT OH WELL THE DRAMA IS ABT TO START SO SOAK UP ALL OF THIS CALM WHILST IT LASTS
