PROMISES, emily prentiss

CHAPTER SIX

August 25th
present day
the BAU jet
11:30 A.M.

As the quiet noises of the jet and soft chatter amongst Auroras new teammates filled her head she tried so hard to bring herself to get at least a little sleep, perhaps something similar to the same great sleep she had last night while she was cuddled into Emily. Maybe if she thought hard enough she could pretend it was last night again, and that the ticking of Spencer's pen across from her was really the soft beat of Emily's heart. Auroras eyes were closed and she tried and tried. But she just couldn't get her brain to turn off, and luckily so because if she was asleep she wouldn't have been able to hear the rest of the team gossiping about her.

"So what do you guys think about Aurora?" JJ asked while looking around at the rest of the team who all immediately stopped what they were doing dramatically and gathered around JJ, this was a conversation they all wanted to be apart of.

"I think she's amazing and she'll be not only a great asset to our team, but also a great friend to those who allow it," Spencer said with a smile as he looked over at Aurora with her eyes closed. As he did look over in her direction he saw her smile just a tiny bit, letting him know that she was still awake and listening to everything that he and the rest of the team said. He stifled a laugh not wanting to blow her cover and looked back at the team.

"Of course you think she's amazing, you're the only one she talks to," Derek said blatantly.

"She is very closed off and hasn't said much about herself," Rossi spoke, "But she is an incredible agent I'll give her that."

"Come on guys shes brand new. I mean I don't remember even telling you guys my birthday or favorite color for like months after I first joined the team," Emily replied defensively.

"Yeah Emily and how closed off of a person are you?" Derek said raising his eyebrows, the comment earning him a scoff, slap to the shoulder and a "Shut up Derek," from Emily.

"She's stubborn," Hotch started. Aurora had to force herself not to reply to him with some snarky or sarcastic remark, she didn't want to say anything, at least not yet. She wanted to know what else they had to say. "But as stubborn as she is, she is kind of incredible" Hotch finished.

Aurora tried not to smile, Hotch thinks she's incredible. She was never going to let him live this down.

"She's insane, I mean, her first case and she stood up to Hotch, profiled like a god, revealed she spoke sign language, and shot the unsub perfectly in the shoulder, while hanging out the window of the car might I add! She's pretty damn cool and that's a lot coming from me," Derek said in awe as he thought back of all the things Aurora had accomplished on her very first case.

Spencer looked around at them and mumbled very quietly so that no one besides Aurora could hear, "She's definitely awake and listening to you guys by the way." Aurora felt him look at her and she opened her eyes and winked at him before pulling a finger to her mouth to tell him to keep quiet.

"Well I think i'm in love with her if i'm being completely honest," JJ said matter-of-factly, "I mean ten languages, how does someone even learn that many? All of the languages Spencer and Emily know put together barely even add to that," she reminded and both agents mentioned glared at JJ for pointing out their inferiority in the subject. Aurora herself had heard enough, she thought to herself, might as well make it known that she heard the whole thing and tease them about it.
