Ben POV
I stumbled out of the room, bumping into Mike and Zoe again.
"Hey, Ben, what's the matter?" he asked. "You look pretty shaken." I decided that there was no point in hiding it.
"Erica kissed me in there," I said pointing in the room. He grinned.
"Yes! We all knew she liked you. Finally, she acted on it!" Zoe grinned.
"Um," I said, uncomfortable. "Can we talk about something else?" Just as Mike was saying something, the intercom flipped on, cutting him off.
"Attention all students," boomed the voice of Cyrus Hale. "Immediately report into the subterranean tunnels. There has been a bombing of the library." I immediately froze instead of reporting to the subterranean tunnels. I just realized something.
"After Erica kissed me, I think she went back to the library," I told them. His eyes widened.
"That might be a problem," he said. "What should we do?" I didn't answer. I was already bolting off to the library without a second thought.
"Hey!" Zoe yelled after me. "It's dangerous there!"
"Yeah," Mike agreed. "You'll get beaned in the head with a fallen plank of wood and fall unconscious!"
"Very helpful," I yelled back, "but I have to make sure she's okay."
"Of course," Zoe sighed, but she didn't seem mad, just worried. "Anything for your girlfriend, right?" By then I was already zooming down the stairs into the library.
It was really hot in there, with plenty of fires, pools of water (probably from the drinking fountain since it leaked from the bomb) and planks falling from the ceiling, just like Mike had said. There were many students unconscious, and a fallen plank had crushed one. Many students had been buried under debris and some were floating in the pools of water, also unconscious.
That was where I found Erica.
She was in one of the pools of water, eyes closed and face down. At first, I assumed the worst, but then I realized she still had a pulse. I pulled her out of the water and started to do CPR on her. She coughed up a lot of water onto my face, but I didn't care. After I pumped all the water out of her, I concluded that she needed air.
Do you know what I did next?
Yep.
Mouth-to-mouth respiration.
I got down on my knees beside her, pinched her nose shut, lifted her chin, and placed my mouth over hers. After a few seconds, she stirred and looked up at me.
"I have a feeling that you just saved my life," she said.
"Um," I said, "Kind of."
"What happened was the was a bombing in the library and I fell unconscious into a pool of water, and you came along and did CPR along with mouth-to-mouth respiration, right?"
"Yes," I affirmed.
"Thank you," she smiled at me. She kissed me briefly on the cheek with a look in her eyes that said she would give me a lot more after we got out of the mess, then went off to lift bookshelves off people. I also got to work making sure people were okay.
Soon, we were finished and met Mike and Zoe down in the tunnels. Cyrus came up to us with a worried look in his eyes.
"Where were you kids? We were really worried," he said, sounding totally not like himself. I guess that in this place, people were OOC. I just hoped Catherine, if she was even here, wasn't the opposite of her normal, cheery self.
Cyrus made sure we were both okay and I filled him in on what happened. He winked at Erica and she blushed, looking away. He also grinned at me and leaned in to tell me something.
"You'll be good for her," he said. "Take care of her, okay?"
"Yes, sir, and thank you, sir," I said. I also met Catherine down there too, and she seemed to be the only person who wasn't OOC.
"Well, hello, Benjamin!" she said cheerfully. "Have you had a good day so far?"
"Up until the bombing," I said. "You?"
"Why, thank you for asking," she said. "I have been having a good day since I heard the news."
"What news?" I asked, feeling like I already know.
"Mike and Zoe filled me in on how Erica kissed you in that abandoned dorm," she smiled even wider.
"Ah," I said, feeling very uncomfortable.
"I just want you to know that you two are a match made in heaven," she said.
After everybody was rounded up and accounted for, we made our way back to the surface. I began to feel a bit dizzy when I stepped into my dorm room. Then, just like before, my head started spinning and I saw black.
When I woke up, I was in my dorm room. I walked outside, bumping into Mike.
"Oh, hi Ben!" he said cheerfully.
"What's so good?" I said, feeling a bit weird like this had already happened.
"You forgot?" he asked, puzzled. "I'm having my first date with Zoe!" Just then, I realized something again. This conversation had already happened. What I had experienced that I thought was an alternate universe wasn't an alternate universe. It was a glimpse of the future.
