"Are you sure you want to sent that letter against Burr" I cautiously ask Alexander who is signing the letter. The letter itself meant to keep his fellow federalists from voting for Burr. "I can't let him win bee. He is dangerous, if he wins he will propel this country into ruin" he absentmindedly answers. I give him a hug from behind, resting my head on his shoulder. "How do you know Jefferson won't do the same" I ask him, kissing his cheek with all my affection. "I don't, but at least he has opinions" he answers, connecting our lips for two seconds. I sigh and disconnect my head from his shoulder, reaching over to read the letter again. "Very well, although I have a bad feeling about this" I warn, my underbelly telling me this is going to bite us in the ass.

After Alexander and I sent the letter we return home. "Can I go see Theodosia" Jimmy immediately asks when we step into our house. "Ugh" Alexander groans, hating the friendship that has been blossoming between Jimmy and Theodosia for a while now. After Theodosia sr. died, Jimmy spent a lot of time at the Burr estate, I dropped by a few times with some food for them and a listening ear for Aaron. I could tell Alexander wanted to visit him too, they were close friends once after all. However being the stubborn toddler Alex could be at some times he didn't. "Of course Jimmy. I'll come with you" I offer, fixing my pants. "Okay" the 18-year old uninterestingly answers, flicking something of his jacket. "See you later" I kiss Alex on the cheek and lead my eldest son outside. "You want to go with the boring carriage or with the fun horses" I ask smiling. "You know the answer mom" he chuckles and walks with me to the small stable.

We ride towards the Burr estate and I can't help, but laugh at my sons nervous behavior. He keeps on plucking random stuff of his jacket and tries to calm himself by petting the horse. "So you like her huh" I snicker, softly encouraging the horse to keep up with Jimmy. "Mom" Jimmy groans, his cheeks coloring a dark shade of red. "I think you two would make a lovely couple. Just so you know, she likes you too" I giggle, looking at his short brown hair, swinging along with the horse. "Well I don't think dad will like it" Jimmy answers, knowing about the feud the

two men carry for each other. "Doesn't matter, it's your life. He will just have to suck it up" I reassure him, already seeing them get married in my head. "I'm not sure that I even want a relationship with her, mom. There are so many girls" Jimmy smiles awkwardly. Exactly like Alexander, "You are just like your father in that aspect" I laugh, Jimmy's whole body language shifts from fun and nervous to completely uncomfortable. Oh shit, I just reminded him about the whole Reynolds thing.

"I'm sure you will end up with someone you love" I smile, trying to light the mood. Jimmy nods absentminded, "You want to race the rest of the way" I dare him, he got his love for galloping and horses from me. Jimmy smiles and nods, immediately spurring his horse to gallop. I copy him and two seconds we're both flying over the cobblestones. "I win" I laugh, screeching to stop when we reach Burrs house. "I'll beat you one day" Jimmy laughs, only a few meters behind me. We step of our horses and walk towards the town house. "So, have fun, but not too much fun" I giddily warn when we step unto the porch. Jimmy groans and makes some inhuman noises, I laugh and knock on the door. "Hello Hamilton number 2 and 3" Aaron jokes opening the door. "Hi Aaron" Jimmy and I somehow simultaneously answer. Aaron lets out a small laugh and opens the door further, so we can step inside.

Aaron and I are sitting in the living room, my gut telling me that I'm being a bad friend because of the letter that Alexander sent. "So how is little Eliza doing" Aaron kindly asks, taking a sip of his tea. "She is so adorable, she is trying to talk and she waddles around all day" I gush about the thought of the little babe in her pink pants and shirt. "How are Theodosia's studies going" I ask sitting on the couch across from Aaron. "It's going well, I had a question for you. Well more of a favor" Aaron asks, his atmosphere suddenly becoming nervous and awkward. "Yes" I ask, sipping my tea. "I've noticed that Theodosia has some trouble talking about certain things with me. So I was wondering if you could help her, with letters or just talking I don't know" Aaron nervously rants, I chuckle and quickly answer before he starts rattling on. "Of course Aaron. Theodosia can always come to me if something is up" I smile, putting my tea on the coffee table. "That reminds me. Won't you and Theodosia come to Jimmy's birthday next week" I smile fixing the ruffles of my shirt. "Oh I couldn't impose Deborah. But I'll send Theodosia down on her own if that's okay" he politely smiles, I nod in response. Knowing that the reason that Aaron won't come is Alexander.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" I scream into Jimmy's ears as he eats his breakfast. "oh my god mom. My ears" Jimmy laughs, rubbing his ears. "What you're 18 years old , we have to celebrate" I smile, magically pulling out some cookies from behind my back. I sit across from him and push his breakfast out of the way, putting the cookies in the middle. Jimmy laughs and grabs a cookie, it's been a tradition since his fifth birthday to eat cookies for breakfast. I take a bite of my cookie "I remember when I was 18. Your father became Washingtons aide de camp that year" I tell him. I say that every year, but this year I'll tell a bit more. Jimmy is casually sitting in his seat, nibbling on his cookie. Expecting to hear the same story as always.

"It was also the year where I got sent to Britain to spy on the king" I softly tell, Jimmy suddenly sitting up straight in his seat. "You got sent to spy on the king" he interestedly asks. "Yeah" I laugh. "I lied my way into his personal favor and gathered information for Washington" I tell him more. "That's so cool" Jimmy looks like a five year old again when he says those words. "How did you gain his trust" he asks, grabbing a new cookie. "Oh you know. He was quite an unsettling man you know. His temper was could go from a bright sunny day to a cold and stormy winters day in a matter of seconds" I think back at Georges behavior and shiver. Jimmy seems to notice the shift in me and puts his hand on mine "He is the reason I can't call Washington or mini Lafayette by their first name" I explain, Jimmy's face pulling into a little oh.

"I don't regret going on that mission, but seeing as it is your 18th birthday I thought I would give you a lesson" I smile softly, biting into a cookie with chocolate. "We do what we think is right in a situation, but as your father and I often found out. For some people that meant horrible consequences, like death" I think back at John and some other friends we lost in the war. "Think about the consequences before you do something" I sadly smile, wiping the crumbs of my shirt and grabbing a new cookie. "I will. Can I ask you a question mom" Jimmy asks, devouring another cookie. I nod and take a bite of a cookie with raisins "How did you get your scar" he points to my face. I laugh, I can't believe I never told him. "So we were in the war. And I was fighting people left and right with John, suddenly we can see your dad is in trouble." I smile thinking back about the blur and adrenaline of that fight. "I get thrown on the ground by this red coat, John is all torn if he should help me or your dad. So I obviously tell him to help Alex, because he will manage to

get himself killed" I laugh and think about John fighting 10 men at once. "So this man is all offended that I am woman, so he decides to maim me. Just after the cut on my face, I managed to grab my dagger" I think back at the metallic feel of the dagger on my fingertips, mixed with the feel of blood on the handle. "I push him of off me and run towards your father and John. I can see there is this man trying to shoot John right" I think back at the blood covered redcoat aiming for Johns face and Alexander being completely oblivious to it. "So I push him out the way and get shot in my shoulder" I touch my shoulder, thinking about the sharp pain, suppressed by the battle adrenaline. "And she says I'm the idiot" Alexander chuckles, walking out of the door opening he was apparently standing in. Jimmy looks from him too me, totally into the story

"I tell her to go to the medic, because she is shot" Alexander chuckles, grabbing a cookie and sitting next to me. "And being the stubborn woman that your mother is, she disobeys my direct orders and keeps on fighting" Alex points at me, I laugh loudly. "If it wasn't for me, you and John would have probably died in that battle" I chuckle, ripping Alexanders cookie out his hand and taking a bite. "Probably, John was always completely reckless in battles" Alexander thinks back at Johns idiotic behavior.

"Remember that time Lafayette wrote a letter about how it wasn't his fault he didn't die in battle, because he tried his best" Alexander chuckles, his gaze and smile slowly turning into a sad one. We both stay silent for a few moments, silently communicating with each other how much we still miss him. "What happened to him" Jimmy breaks the silence. I swallow loudly and take a bite out of my cookie, looking for Alexanders help, considering the tears are already welling up in my eyes. "He died, your mom was with him when he got shot in a battle" Alexander explains, kissing my forehead and rubbing my shoulder in comfort. "He was reckless in that battle too, only that time I couldn't save him" I swallow my tears and see Alex's Adams apple moving too. "Well he sounds like he was cool" Jimmy smiles softly, trying to lighten the mood. "He was very cool. He once fought of a redcoat and won with only a book" Alexander chuckles. We tell more stories about John and the war while feasting on the cookies, spending the morning of Jimmy's birthday full of reminiscing and laughter.
