"M, are you sure that we should've went with cooking at home? We never do well with that," Evie told her, and Mal shook her head, her eyes reflecting her determination.

Mal and Evie were having one of their usual sleepovers that they had so often, and instead of choosing takeout from a favorite restaurant, Mal had decided that she wanted to cook something homemade. Which Evie had been protesting against since Mal announced the idea.

"Well, Evie, we can't be takeout tokers forever!" Mal proclaimed, and Evie paused, glancing at Mal strangely.

"M, that's... Do you even know what a toker is?" Evie questioned, a bit of a laugh in her voice as she carefully watched the hamburgers in the pan. They were sizzling quite nicely by now, and she had a feeling that she was going to need to turn them over so that the pink side could be cooked as well.

"No, but that's not important. What I'm saying is that we are grown women. We are perfectly self-sufficient, independent human beings, right?"

"Yes, but we're not cooks," Evie expressed, turning to face her sister. Mal shrugged.

"Whatever you say. I think we're perfectly good cooks," Mal informed the other girl as she started into the living room. Evie huffed, rolling her eyes, and she followed Mal into the other room,

"Do you even remember the time when me, you, Carlos, and Jay cooked Ben's birthday breakfast?" Evie asked as Mal flicked through the channels on the television, diligently looking for a movie.

"Well, yeah, but I've improved since then!" Mal assured her, keeping her eyes on the television screen as she looked for a suitable movie on the movie channels, and Evie raised an eyebrow skeptically.

"Surely to goodness you're not talking about the birthday breakfast you made for Jay a month or two back," Evie spoke, and Mal nodded enthusiastically, looking back at the bluenette standing near her.

"Heck, yeah, I am! That was a solid meal!" Mal informed her, and Evie chuckled under her breath as she looked down at the floor.

"It was solid alright," Evie noted, acknowledging the texture of the food that Mal had made.

"E, it was scrambled eggs," Mal informed her, completely unimpressed with Evie's observation.

"You know, I really don't think that was eggs. It was more like a chicken's kidney stone," Evie noted, and Mal shivered all over at the thought as she gave up scrolling through the channels in favor of looking through the recorded movies on the DVR.

"You are so disgusting. Aren't you supposed to be the proper one in this relationship?" Mal questioned, and Evie stepped up close to her as she smiled widely.

"I'm the factual one. And what I said was the facts, ma'am," Evie assured her, and Mal looked back at her sister, reaching over and quickly aiming for her sides as she dug her fingers into Evie's skin and tickled her. Evie collapsed into giggles, moving backward away and out of Mal's line of fire.

Mal rolled her eyes, and threw the remote back onto the couch.

However, she suddenly sniffed slightly and came to the realization that something smelled as if it were burning. Mal furrowed her brow, and she looked in the direction of the kitchen. Evie looked at her strangely, trying to decipher the source of Mal's concern.

Mal headed into the kitchen with Evie hot on her heels and as soon as she entered, she gasped loudly.

"EVIE, THE STOVE!!!" Mal cried out, and Evie's eyes went ridiculously wide as she gaped at the sight of the fire that was flaring out of the pan. Evie let out a sound that sounded something like a strangled scream.

"MY STOVE!!!" Evie screeched, and Mal rushed for the sink, scrambling for a cup. She swiftly filled one up and doused the flames as well as she could. However, the flames were not deterred in the least and in fact, as the water overfilled the pan and ran over onto the other parts of the stove and into the floor, the flames spread with it. Evie and Mal both screamed as the flames went everywhere the water was spreading.

"M, YOU DON'T PUT OUT AN OIL FIRE WITH WATER!" Evie screamed, and Mal's eyes widened.

"How the heck was I supposed to know that, girl genius?!!!" Mal replied loudly, her voice panicked as she addressed Evie. Evie surged forward, sidestepping the fire and fumbling through the cabinets sloppily as she reached for the salt.

"DARN MY ALPHABETICAL ORDER!!!" Evie agonized as she withdrew the salt container. It was a large bottle, but as Evie started dumping the salt on the fire, it only managed to put out a little of the fire before running out.

"Are you out of salt?!!" Mal questioned, totally freaking out. Evie shook her head quickly, dropping the salt container to the floor as she backed away from the growing flames. She touched her hand to Mal's arm.

"CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!!!!" Evie demanded and Mal almost fell in her haste to get to her smart phone. Mal practically jumped over the back of the couch as she swiftly snatched her phone from the coffee table. She dialed the number as swiftly as her fingers could move on the buttons, and she was quickly answered by an operator.

"911, what is your emergency?"

"The kitchen's on fire!!!" Mal yelled into the phone, and the woman on the other end quickly asked for the address and Mal's phone number. Mal wasted no time in her reply, and the woman instructed her to get out of the house if she had not already.

As soon as she had gotten off of the phone, Mal rushed back into the kitchen. Evie was desperately dumping any spice that she could get on the fire, but the flames showed no signs of stopping even slightly.

"GOSH, I SERIOUSLY SHOULD'VE INVESTED IN A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!!!!"

"No time to ponder over the past, E! We've got to get out of here!!" Mal told her, trying to sound at least a little calm. Evie was quite evidently freaking out. The starter castle was Evie's pride and joy alongside her car, and the house meant more to her than almost anything that she owned.

"BUT MY KITCHEN!!!!" Evie cried pitifully, and Mal shook her head, pulling Evie's hand as hard as she could, trying her best to move Evie's much taller form.

"Evie, come on!" Mal told her, and Evie finally complied with the girl's pulls.

When they got outside, the firemen were already there. They rushed past the girls, heading in to take care of the mess that had been created. Evie calmed down immediately at the sight of them, and Mal found herself exceedingly thankful for the change in the other girl's mood.

They just stood there for a little while in silence, observing the situation at hand solemnly.

However, after a moment, Mal broke the quiet with a slight chuckle.

"Y'know, I think takeout sounds really good right about now..."

Evie just looked at Mal in pure exasperation.

Thank you to @Descendantsfan03 for the request! This one was really fun to write. 😊 I felt kinda bad for Evie while writing it, but I think Mal's definitely learned her lesson about trying to cook at home... 😂
