Annabeth actually showed some knowledge for once and figured out a way to get to California. She stopped a taxi and paid with her Lotus Casino card, which had infinite money. You could tell that Annabeth liked it when the cab driver called her princess.
It took about 8 hours. When they got to Los Angeles, they began walking around, probably because no one told them where the Underworld was. They were walking around Los Angeles when they walked past an alley that a gang was hanging out in. They surrounded the trio but one look from Percy with eyes glowing red made them back off.
They continued walking until Grover was grabbed from behind and dragged into a store. Percy immediately ran after him, but when he entered the store, Grover was nowhere to be seen. It was dead quiet besides a soft whimpering sound.
Percy searched the store. It seemed to be a mattress store, mostly water beds. Near the back of the store there was a basketball hoop set up, hanging off of the wall. Following the whimpering, Percy found Grover. And his limbs were tied to bed posts. The rope seemed to be stretching him.
Percy suddenly reached his hand out and found it wrapped around something. He turned and found his hand wrapped around someone's throat. It was a middle aged man that defined the term 'crusty'.
"Did you do that?" Percy asked lowly, like one wrong move and eternity in Hell it is. Of course with who was asking the question it was entirely possible.
"They- n-never fit." The man croaked out.
Percy threw the man onto the bed next to Grover. He was next to the man in an instant, holding him down. Percy pinned him to the bed by the shoulders. "Who are you?"
The man smirked. "Name's Procrustes."
Percy removed one hand and grabbed the rope at the end of the bed, using it to tie Procrustes to the bed. It was harder than it sounds due to him being taller than the bed. His entire head was hanging over the footboard.
Percy uncapped Riptide. Upon seeing the blade, Procrustes paled. Of course that was the last expression he made as his head was violently ripped from his neck as Percy used Riptide like a golf club. The severed head flew into the basketball hoop without touching the rim causing Percy to celebrate.
He cut Grover out of the rope and they exited the store. It was then that they noticed that Annabeth hadn't been with them. They went back into the store to look for her. No luck, but it wasn't a total loss as they got the address for the Underworld.
Percy decided to spread his wings, shocking Grover. Percy picked Grover up and they flew around looking for Annabeth. They found her just wandering the streets like the other 2 members of the quest went missing. They landed on a rooftop.
"Not a word about this to anyone." Percy hissed at Grover, who nodded. "Alright, can you fly us down there?" Percy asked.
Grover flew them down to Annabeth who was still walking around without a care in the world. She seemed surprised that they were there but masked it pretty well. Just not well enough to hide it from Percy.
They made it to DOA Studios. Which was an inside joke that only Percy found funny. Grover did crack a smile though. They walked in to find a room that resembled a waiting room at a doctor's office. There was a podium near the back, right next to an elevator. A dark man stood at the podium, not doing anything.
The trio made their way to the podium. The man looked down at them. "What can I do for you deadlings?" He asked.
"Well Charon, we would like to go to the Underworld." Percy said.
"Would you look at that, someone said my name right. Now, about your request, do you have payment?"
"Well, no, but I have something else." Percy replied, pulling the blue backpack off of his shoulders. He opened it up to reveal The Helm of Darkness. Upon seeing the symbol of power, Charon paled.
"Right this way." He said, leading them to the elevator. "Anyone that died from 1500-1506, please come this way." Charon said out to the crowd. Slowly a group of people formed a line in front of the elevator.
Slowly, they walked on and descended. About halfway, Charon changed into a skeleton with a cloak. Like the Grim Reaper, but without the scythe. The rest of the spirits turned more transparent. The elevator turned into a barge heading down the river. That wasn't the only change. Percy's clothes changed from a dirty shirt, jeans, and Reeboks, to a red dress shirt, a black vest with a red pocket square. Dress pants that looked like they had just been freshly ironed that matched with black dress shoes. He looked like he was going to Prom.
The barge was floating down a dark river that was littered with items. Dreams, Percy realized, the items were crushed dreams that were never fulfilled and were laid in the river upon the person's death.
The barge stopped at a shore with black sand that reminded Percy of that beach in Iceland that he could never remember the name of. They followed the crowd of spirits off of the boat.
The only way Percy could describe the judgement lines was as if a toll line from a country border and airplane security had a baby. And above it all was a huge, 3 headed Rottweiler. As soon as Cerberus laid eyes on Percy, the whole tough guy act dropped. His eyes widened and his mouth turned up in an expression that could only be described as happiness.
Cerberus shrank as he bounded forward towards Percy. He shrank until he was the size of a regular puppy. Percy got down to his knees, grabbed a nearby stick and played with Cerberus for a couple of minutes before getting up to leave. As he did so, Cerberus whined. Sighing, Percy picked up Cerberus and held him as they walked through the metal detectors. They went off, but literally nobody cared.
The trio were walking through the fields of Punishment, which Percy felt right at home in, when they noticed something strange. Every spirit that Percy passed bowed to him. Every time, Percy would wave his hand and the spirit would go back to whatever it was that they were doing.
About halfway through, the flying shoes on Grover's feet started acting up, before picking him up fully and dragged him to the left. Percy and Annabeth chased Grover until Grover was about to fall into a pit. Percy sped up his running and grabbed Grover's foot. He put down Cerberus and grabbed onto a rock.
Annabeth slowly approached them. "Annabeth, help me!" Percy cried.
She walked over to Percy and reached her hands out, almost to grasp his, when she pried his fingers off of the rock, sending the disguised Devil and satyr into the depths of Tartarus.
She kicked Cerberus down there too, for good measure.
A/N. HA HA HA. I'm cruel. Anyway, I drew a map of my version of the Underworld, it's in the media section thingy.
