AN: I edited this chapter and got rid of the time skip. This chapter is a pretty long chapter so have fun :)
Draco's POV
A few days after Potter's incident, I approached him in the empty common room. He was sitting on the couch pretending to read a book, but in reality he appeared to be staring at the fire.
"Hey Potter. I-- er, just wanted to apologize for what I said the other day. Well actually for what I've been saying since like first year." I couldn't believe what had come out of my mouth.
"Oh, well I'm sorry too. For all the things I've said in the past. It was childish and immature." He responded
"Yes childish and immature" I repeated. He held out his hand for me to shake. The gesture was all so familiar from our first year.
"Truce?" he asked.
"Truce." I shook his hand.
"Friends?" He asked with a smile.
"Don't push it Potter. Acquaintances."
"Acquaintances." He replied with a nod before heading up the stairs to our dorm. I couldn't help but smile to myself as he walked away. It only took him eight bloody years to shake my hand, stupid Gryffindor.
I stayed down by the fire for a bit, watching the flames eat at the logs. I didn't even notice Pansy creep down the stairs, that is until she plopped herself down on the couch next to me with an obnoxious sigh.
"Ah! Pansy what the hell?" I whisper shouted, most everyone would be asleep by now and I didn't want to wake them.
"Not my fault you were distracted. wasn't being quiet or anything, you just don't pay attention." Pansy shrugged. I rolled my eyes and relaxed into the comfort of both the couch and my best friends presence.
"Why are you up so late?" I asked, just now noticing the time on my watch. Half past 1 in the morning. How long was I watching the fire?
"Couldn't sleep." Pansy said simply, I could tell se meant that. Sometimes I forget to remind myself she's practically nocturnal. "What about you?"
"Oh, um, I called a truce with Potter. Felt like we should leave the negativity in the past. Ya know?" I said. She just nodded.
I couldn't stop a yawn from escaping. Pansy stretched one arm around my shoulder and I leaned into her. She ran her fingers through my hair in a soothing way until I felt the peace of sleep wash over me.
Harry's POV
I woke up suddenly, a scream still caught in my throat. I ran my fingers through my hair, which was damp with sweat. I swung my legs over he side of the bed and took a deep breath.
It was just a dream...
Just a dream...
A dream.
I pushed off my bed and made my way to the bathroom, I passed Malfoy's bed and noticed it was undisturbed, no Malfoy in sight. I checked the time on the clock, 4:28am. Strange, I thought, It's a bit early for even Malfoy. I splashed my face with cold water from the sink and towel died my face and hair before crawling back into bed. I didn't want to succumb to sleep, the nightmare still fresh in my mind. I keep telling myself its just a dream, but the things I see and feel, they were so very real. Voldemort was real. My parents dying, was real. Cedric, Dobby, Fred their deaths were real. I decided against sleep and instead pulled out the Transfiguration paper Hermione had begged me to do earlier. Ron and I had been busy playing chess to even think about the paper that was apparently due in a few hours.
