*Time Skip - one year later(early October-ish)*

Draco's POV

I woke up to the annoying beep of my alarm. Harry was still fast asleep, as usual. I shook him gently until he opened his eyes, then I kissed him and got up to shower. After a year of working in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement(DMLE), our mornings had fallen into a routine. I wake up to the alarm like I'm supposed to, and my boyfriend tries to ignore it. I wake him up and we get ready to leave. We eat a quick breakfast and get coffee on the way. Even though we are both wizards, we like to walk to work to spend more quality time together. Harry and I had become the dream team of aurors, we mostly focus on death eaters that escaped after the war, there are groups scattered all over the world. After many successful cases, we quickly climbed the ladder of the department. I'd even heard a whisper that the Department head was considering retirement within the next few years and Harry was a top choice.

Harry and I reached the Ministry right on time, it was busy with witches and wizards swarming around the main floor. We got on the lift and pushed the Level 2 button. After a few moments, the lift jerked to life, sliding backward and then up to the second level. We stepped off the lift and opened the vast oak doors of the Auror's Headquarters. My cubicle was next to Harry's, since we were partners, but on my way there I noticed extra cubicles at the end of a few rows.

"Looks like we're getting some new guys," I said, pointing the new cubicles out to Harry.

"Awesome, I wonder if they will be anyone we know," Harry said as we arrived at our cubicles. Ron had become an auror earlier this year when the first batch of new recruits came in, Harry and I had the pleasure of showing him the ropes.

There was a case file on my desk when I sat down. I opened it and it had my name on it. That's strange, I thought, why isn't Harry's name on this? Maybe I'm doing a solo case, I hadn't done one of those in a while. That's when the Department head stepped out of his office at the front and called for Harry. Harry glanced at me with a nervous look, I gave him an encouraging smile and watched him walk away to the Department head's office. I couldn't help but tap my foot nervously on the floor. I tried to concentrate on the file in front of me but I kept looking up at the office doors waiting to see him come out. It was like my heart was beating over time until I saw him leave the office and walk slowly back to his cubicle.

Harry's POV

I stepped into the office and took a nervous seat. Did I do something wrong? Did one of my targets escape? The department head sat down behind his desk and took out a file.

"I'm sure you are wondering why I called you in here." He said, I nodded. "Well, we are getting some new recruits today, fresh out of training. There was one particular student who seemed to excel, I am placing him with you so you can show him the ropes and help him fulfill his potential. This is a good opportunity to show off your leadership skills and prove you have what it takes to be a great auror. He will be your new partner until further notice."

"New partner? But what about Draco?" I asked.

"Draco will either work solo or be paired with a new partner, for right now I need you with this recruit." He responded. "His name is Justin Finch-Fletchley. He got near-perfect marks on all the courses, I think you two will work well together."

"Justin? I know him, he was a student at Hogwarts in my year." I said. The department head nodded.

"Yes, unfortunately after Voldemort took over Hogwarts, he was forced out due to his bloodline. He just returned to finish his last year and then moved straight into auror training." He explained. I nodded and he handed me a file. "This is your first assignment. Not too complicated."
