Dog Days Are Over

The sun was lightly rising higher as they headed to the school, Melanie sitting in the front seat, Kyle driving fast to get there on time for Jacobs sake, and Jacob watching his watch every few seconds. The car played classics, which Kyle nodded to, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. Mel just sighed as they got to the parking lot.  Seeing Serina stand at the front of the school door looking around made Melanie feel uneasy. She quickly slumped down into her seat, groaning and shook her head.

"How am I supposed to act like nothing happened-"

Kyle parked the car and unbuckled, turning the engine off and turned to her when Jacob flew out the car to get to class.
' Look, things happen. How do you think I felt when my mother walked off with my little sister instead of me. Instead, she left me with my annoying little brother. Either you walk with your head high, or let it swallow you down like you're nothing. Which do you choose? '

Melanie sighed and nodded, Kyle getting out.
' Wait a second- '

She sat there, jumping when her door opened, Kyle standing there with a smile and held his hand out to her.
' You'll always have me now, you'll be protected, and you have nothing to worry about okay? '

Melanie nodded and smiled, standing up and sliding out the door, taking his hand when he closed the door as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. When he started walking towards the door with her, Melanie noticed Serina with a weirded out look on her face. When they made it to the door, Kyle kissed Melanie on the cheek, then walked into the building. Serina furrowed her brows as she watched him, then looked back at her best friend.

' Who's the hunk? '
She hip bumped her best friend and pointed to Kyle with her thumb over her shoulder.

"That's, Kyle. Roberts oldest son-"

' So you're making Robert jealous now? '

"No but... I don't, feel like going in there. Wanna, skip?"
Melanie looked at her friend with a sad look, Serina just nodded and smiled.

' Yes, only because I missed your birthday yesterday... '

Serina wrapped an arm around her best friend, walking off down the street. As they quickly walked down the street, Serina huffed a breath and kicked a rock.
' So, what happened? Are you, alright? '

"I'm, okay... I just, don't have my parents anymore-"

' I- Melanie... What happened... '
Selina's face lit up in shock as she looked over at the gloomy looking Mel.

"They're dead-"

Serina stopped in her tracks, Melanie stopping a little after and turned to face her still shocked friend.
' I- I don't know what to say... What happened? Are you gonna be okay? Do you need a place to stay? '

"No no- i-"
She groaned and started walking off, Serina quickly following.
"My mom killed herself and my dad... And I just, learned that... The whole god and devil thing is real..."

'So- that thing that visited Rebecca- '

Melanie nodded.
"It was real, and true. There's not just the devil, there's devil's, and a Lucifer and a god and God's and... I just, I don't know how to take this all in..."

' What- the- fuck- I can't believe it... It's, all real... The ghost in the hotel, the creepy shit that happened with Rebecca, the witchcraft stuff your dad taught you- '

Melanie groaned and rubbed her face, stopping at the park and shook her head.
"This is, all fucked up... Do you think, anybody else would know this stuff-"

' No but, how did you find out- '
Serina sat on one of the swings, watching her friend pace back and forth.

"Robert, he hunts them. He's like, a devil Hunter or some shit... I don't know..."
Mel then laid back on the grassy ground and looked up at the sky.
"And he wants me to find them-"

Serina furrowed her brows then cleared her throat.
' I- may have found some... '

Melanie sat up and looked at her.
"You knew about all this shit?!"

Serina shook her head.
' I didn't believe it til you told me about that!!! I'm... I'm sorry... Axle, told me... '

Melanie furrowed her brows and stood up.
"Axle..."

Serina sighed and stood up, taking her hand.
' You have to promise me not to tell Robert... Please! Please, please, please... I didn't believe it, not until you told me- I thought he was some delusional man and I broke up with him- '

"wait. Believe what, Serina..."

' I- I can't tell you... Not without their permission. But, I can take you to them... So you can talk to them... Promise me, you won't regret it- '
Serina started running off with her, taking her to the bus stop.

"Serina! Wait! Where are we going! What are you talking about?!"
