The loud speaker announced Namjoon's name to the whole of the office building, and his heart fell, fluttering quickly down to the deepest parts of his stomach.
His father calling his name was always terrifying ( it was for everyone ) but especially since you had just been loud as hell. Not to mention the fact that his dad never called him to the office over the loudspeaker, instead, using the phone, as most of the time, it wasn't anything too serious for Namjoon and the other workers to know.
But now ( seemingly ) it was, and that scared him, his throat clogging. And reluctantly, Namjoon got up out of his desk chair and straightened himself up before heading to his father's office.
As he was in the elevator, his head leaned back against the wall, resting against the cold metal. He tried to swallow down the building nausea that was irritating his belly, not wanting to get ahead of himself, as maybe it wasn't that big of a deal. But he couldn't do it, his heart racing and stomach gurgling.
Fuck you for being so loud...
This shouldn't have made him as scared as it did - Namjoon wasn't a pussy. He was anything but - but it did. His dad terrified him, more than anything imaginable. He was a grown adult; he shouldn't be this scared of a man, but he was. The way he treated him still hung in Namjoon's mind, and stung on his skin. He could basically feel it.
Yes, Namjoon was bigger, stronger than his father physically, but mentally... Namjoon wasn't a strong as portrayed. In fact, he was quite weak. His father tore him to shreds and broke him down until he couldn't take much of anything without breaking anymore.
And yes, this pain had gone on for as long as Namjoon knew, and he should've been inure and not afraid. But would you ever get used to the biggest figure in your life, the person you're supposed to look up to most, betraying you? Hurting you? Would you ever get used to the way that you still adored them, despite all of the pain that they put you through?
When the chime of the elevator rang, noting him of the way he was at the level of his father's office, his body refused to move.
This happened a lot, ever since he was young. He'd just freeze when he was scared, his body just giving in, and letting whatever happen, but he refused to be held down by his overbearing anxiety and used all of his will power to pry himself off of the elevator wall.
Opening the door to his dad's office, he got hit with the familiar scent of coffee.
"Hey, dad," he said, voice softer than a hum, his hands lacing together in front of him, trying to hide the fear.
