"Give me a minute," Namjoon said softly into your ear, noticing his father, and pulling away from you to walk over to his dad that had called him over with a mere nod of his head.

As soon as you saw the gesture, you felt rage boil in your veins, knowing what that monster had done to Namjoon, and the way he had him under his arm, Namjoon doing whatever his dad desired. You glared at the elder as Namjoon walked over to him, but he paid no mind to you, only interested in his son and the way he didn't listen to his directions.

Once again, he was 26, he could make his own decisions, but whatever.

You just watched, not able to hear their conversation, but still trying to decipher what they were saying off of their expressions. You knew he was getting scolded, but you had no clue of the extent of things.

"What the hell is she doing here?" Namjoon's father asked, fisting the fabric of his son's suit to pull him down close to himself.

To that, Namjoon scoffed. "I can make my own decisions; I can bring who I want. I'm not that little kid that still listens to your every demand, dad."

The sudden rebellion his son showed towards him was odd. Namjoon had rarely denied his dad, and he was sure Namjoon was this way because of you - you had told him to act this way.

"It's this one time, son. I didn't want her here embarrassing you," he sighed, sipping his drink. "She put you up to this, didn't she? She told you to rebel."

Namjoon looked over at you, and the expression on his face said a million words. You wanted to walk over there and help, but you knew you'd only make things worse.

"No, she didn't," Namjoon said assertively. "I assure you of that. I'm just speaking my mind, dad. I'm not your slave. And she's not embarrassing me. In fact, she's doing the opposite; she's making it easier for me to tolerate being here."

The younger pulled away from his dad, yanking the fabric of his suit out of his father's hand. His dad scoffed, letting out a stiff laugh.

"Act tough and hate me all you want, son, but know that without me, you're nothing." His dad leaned back in his seat, sighing. "Remember why you're here? Me. Why you're not homeless? Me. Why you have everything handed to you? Me. And I would watch your mouth if you want to keep it that way. With a snap of my fingers, I can leave you with nothing... but by all means, rebel. Test the waters and see where it lands you. See what happens when you act this way towards me."

The threat was scary, yes, but Namjoon knew his dad would never do that; Namjoon did too much for him for his dad to just disown him.
