Haylie didn't tell anyone about what she asked Dan to do. And she didn't dare tell Dan that she knew he was a hunter. The lies weren't easy, especially when Derek or her dad asked her why she was home late, but when she reminded herself why she was doing it, it made it easier.
Her relationship with Dana had been stretched at best. She hadn't been caught in the downstairs gym again, and she had been on time for every session, but she felt the tension from her instructor.
She was sat in her room and didn't even bother looking up from her homework when Derek came in through the window again. "How did it go?" She mumbled but he only grunted in response, taking of his jacket.
"Full moon is only a few days away and he's not even nearly ready."
Haylie looked up at him through her mirror when she heard the frustration in his tone. "Don't you just need to teach him to control his anger? Try some breathing exercises."
Derek let a rare smile form on his face as he sat down on the edge of her bed. "It's not that simple. For him to face the Alpha, he needs to channel that anger into his animal instincts." His smile faded when she turned in her chair to face him. "He can't do that with Alison around."
Haylie frowned. "Because of her family."
He sighed and leant back on his hands, his green eyes scanning her from her bare face down to her long purple pyjama bottoms. He had been looking at her like that a lot the last few days. Like he wanted to remember every detail. She was scared enough by it that she stood up and moved in front of him, taking his attention back to the conversation. "For a few reasons." He settled on, but kept his position leant back as she stopped at his knees.
"It's a bit hypocritical don't you think?" She teased, moving to straddle him as her hands ran up the familiar safe material of his t-shirt and up his neck. "Telling him to stay away from Alison and then coming straight here?"
Derek smirked again, still not moving to touch her, but instead enjoying the way she was touching him. "You are I are different." She cocked her head, waiting for him to expand. "I was born this way, I know how to control it. You don't get in the way of my anger." She cocked her head the way making him let out a short chuckle. "Scott's so blinded by his feelings for her that he's not able to truly reach that new side of himself. She keeps him too human."
Without realising it, Haylie's hands stopped their movements on his neck and her smile started to drop. "I don't do that for you?"
Knowing how she had taken his words, Derek moved quickly, flipping her onto her back. "I didn't mean it like that." He said deadly serious, his hands holding hers beside her head on the mattress. "I thought we'd been over this. Don't question how I feel about you because I don't think I can make it any more obvious."
She stared at him. Those green eyes held her hostage. "Maybe you could try." She said with a growing smile.
Derek didn't hesitate before moving forward and capturing her mouth with his. It was slow and gentle as his kissed her. His hands slowly released her wrists and ran down her body, gripping her hips tightly as he moved them further up the bed. "Turn over." He whispered and she obeyed the request like she would with anything he asked.
Derek moved off her and lifted the back of her shirt but didn't try and take it completely off. Instead, he placed soft kisses all down her spine. She moaned at the slight touches causing him to grin against her skin. He caused her heart to stop when he reached where her waistband was and whispered. "In moments like this, you make me feel more animal than human."
"The 'what' of 'who'?" Lydia frowned as Haylie took her seat at the lunch table beside Allison who was holding a thick book in her hands.
"The Beast of Gevaudan. Listen. A quadruped wolf like monster. Prowling the overn in south Dordogne, France, during the years of 1764 to 1767. The monster killed over 100 people, becoming so infamous that King Louie the 15th sent one of his best hunters to try and kill it." Haylie hadn't touched her food as she listened, her heart beginning to race. Alison talking about wolf like monsters didn't sit right with her.
