EDITED
The drive home was silent. They had already put together a plan of calling the sheriff tomorrow morning, so they didn't have to explain digging up a dead body in the middle of the night. Haylie tried to fight for a little bit, coming up with excuses to try and defend Derek. However, once they got into the car, she realised she had been doing it all internally because whenever she opened her mouth, nothing came out. She couldn't defend him. He had half of a girl buried in his backyard. Derek was a killer.
"Haylie. Are you okay?" She snapped out of her dazed state to Scott. He had turned around from the front seat and reached his hand over to fall on her fiddling fingers. "You haven't said anything for a while." She was debating telling them about the Alpha, however, now she wasn't sure how much she really knew about aside from there was a big beast running around the woods. Anything Derek could have told her could have been a lie so, why should she relay any information she couldn't trust.
She nodded when she linked her eyes with Scott's. He seemed surprisingly calm considering everything he was going through right now although, Haylie had no idea just how freaked out he was thinking about if he could become a murderer like Derek. Stiles was staying surprisingly quiet considering he saw a dead body after hoping to find one. The teens knew what they were going out to find tonight however, they didn't feel a victory.
Thankfully, the sheriff's car was missing from the driveway, so Haylie didn't have to worry about an awkward run in when she entered the house alone. Stiles left to go to Scott's house and plan their exact excuse for tomorrow and while that sounded like a lot of fun, she wanted to go home. She couldn't stop picturing the face of the lifeless girl buried with no remorse. Even as she climbed the stairs, she saw her eyes. As she opened her bedroom door, she saw the way her mouth was hung slightly open. As she walked over to the bedroom window to close it, she saw the naked bare arms covered in dirt. When she turned back away from the window, she saw Derek Hale.
"Oh my god." She screamed; her hand flung to her mouth before she could realise, she was alone in this house, so nobody would hear her. Alone in the house with Derek.
"Where have you been?" He asked simply, using one hand to push the door closed and the other hidden away in his pocket. He could hear her heart beating so hard inside her chest with no intention of calming down. Haylie placed a hand over it, hoping to shield some of the sound but there was no chance of controlling it. Not after what she now knew. He took a step towards her, forcing her to take a step back. When he saw her small feet take her back, he cocked his head and repeated his question. "Where were you Haylie?" She was so terrified he would see through her lie, if he didn't already. So, she chose to avoid it.
"I went to your house." She said with a slight shake in her voice. When she realised just how little confidence she had, she turned her back to him and began to pull off her jacket. She needed to be stronger than ever right now if she didn't want him to see straight through her and murder her for knowing the truth. Everything she had felt for him before, had been replaced with fear.
She kept her back to him as she moved in front of her desk to pull her phone out of her pocket and take the small bits of jewellery off. Trying to appear as normal as possible in her bedroom with a murderer. The only advantage she had was that he didn't know she knew. "Why?" He asked in a hard tone as he moved behind her. She could keep her back to him, but when she was standing in front of a mirror, he could still see her avoid his gaze. He knew something was wrong. And she knew he knew something was wrong.
"I went looking for you." She lied but lifted her head to look at him this time. "After you left earlier, I got cornered by Scott and Stiles." She forced out a small laugh. "I didn't tell them about the Alpha like I promised." Derek cocked his head through the reflection, hearing the lies through her heartbeat. "But, after telling them what you told me to tell my dad, Scott said he would look out for me. So, you don't need to babysit anymore." Another laugh was forced out so Derek took a step closer to her reflection, before he could ask, she shook her head and nervously pushed more hair behind her ear. "Stiles is actually going to sleep in my room tonight so..."
