EDITED

Haylie tried to call Stiles but he didn't answer. Instead it only rang a few times before it seemed like he had rejected the call. So, she switched to Scott who's phone went straight to voicemail when she remembered he didn't have his phone.

She climbed into her car, swapping her heels for the same trainers she had driven to the high school in and dialled Lydia. Again, no answer. Lydia always answered. So, finally she tried Jackson. "Haylie?"

"Jackson? Where are you, everyone disappeared?" He was silent for a second and her stomach flipped with a bad feeling. "Jackson?"

"I was out behind the school," His voice shook. "The hunters, they said they wouldn't hurt him."

She froze before starting the engine. "Scott? Did you tell them about Scott?" Her voice was calm but she was close to screaming.

"They thought it was me."

Haylie hung up and threw her phone to the passenger side as she started the car heading for Scott's house. She slammed the car to a halt and climbed out just as Scott was running down from his front door. "What are you doing here?" He frowned, taking in her blue dress and stupid crown she had forgotten about. She looked to his normal clothes and flung the crown off, not caring where it had landed.

"Jackson told them about you." She stated like it explained everything but Scott only nodded and pulled his hood out from under his jacket.

"I know. I'm dealing with it. I have a plan to get Derek." He went to move past her, but she grabbed his wrist stopping him. "No, you can't come. Go back to the dance."

"No. I'm coming with you end of discussion."

"It's too dangerous. The hunters are out there looking for me right now."

Haylie scoffed. "I can take care of myself." Tonight, she would make sure that she did. "Get in my car and tell me where we're going."

Against his better judgement, he did.

While she drove, Scott told her about Alison. How she saw his face. How she told her he loved her. How her dad then tried to run him over with his car.

"So, we need Derek." She sighed, running a hand through her wavy hair as she drove towards the preserve.

"I need to signal Derek. If he can howl back, I should be able to find him."

She frowned at him. "Then why didn't you do that when he first went missing?"

Scott shrugged. "I didn't think about it."

Haylie shook her head at him again. "Okay, can we at least both agree the lessons with Derek would have been useful." Scott didn't respond and while she was semi joking, she knew he didn't respond because he actually agreed.

"You won Formal Fairy?" He suddenly asked as it was obviously too silent. She turned to look him for a second, remembering how happy she had been and nodded. "Good. I voted for you."

A genuine smile took over her face as she looked to him again. Why she had ever been so mean to him and her brother she'll never know. These last few months, they had been the best friends she never realised she didn't have.

Haylie stayed in the car as Scott walked up to the cliff edge where Derek used to bring her. They used to sit in his car for hours, talking, not talking. Her eyes burned with the reminders of it. She focused on Scott as he got down to all fours and howled so loudly that even she found herself gripping her car seat from the vibrations.

When he finished and stood back up, Haylie pulled herself from the car. "I don't hear anything?" Scott shifted back as he turned to face her. "Shouldn't there be some kind of 'hey Scott, I'm over here?"
