EDITED

Derek's eyes never left Haylie's after he said the three words he didn't want to say. At least not to her. Not yet. "I know it's hard to believe." He continued but was cut off when she abruptly stood up. "You can't leave." He said expecting her to dart towards the door again. "Now that you know about us, you're officially a threat."

"A threat to what?" She asked. She was just out for a run how did things change like this.

"To what you saw out there." He wanted to ease her into this, but he also knew he wanted to get her home as soon as this conversation was done. "It's like me, a werewolf."

Haylie lifted her hand to cut him off before he could continue. "You turn into a thing like that?"

He shook his head and leant forward on his knees, with his hands clasped. "No. What you saw out there, it's called an Alpha. It's the most dangerous of our kind. The leader of the pack."

"There's a whole pack of you?" Fear was creeping again but the second she even said the word pack out loud she remembered where she had seen the reference to a wolf pack recently. "Stiles?" She sighed, looking to the front door again, thinking over the possibilities of her brother's involvement.

"What? What about Stiles? What's he already told you?"

Haylie's head snapped back to Derek. "Nothing. Stiles hasn't told me anything." Her voice started to raise as she suddenly lost some of her fear. "What does my brother have to do with this Derek?" He looked away, becoming impatient with the unimportant questions. "Derek!"

"Nothing. Your brother is an idiot who thinks he knows a lot more than he does." She scoffed at the idiot remark and folded her arms across her chest.

"And what is it that he thinks he knows?"

"It's Scott. He got bit and now he's losing control." Haylie's hand flew to her mouth and she nearly collapsed from the shock.

"That was Scott?" Instantly realising why, she would now think that, Derek stood and reached her before her legs could give way.

"No. The Alpha is the one that bit him. Scott's still new and I'm trying to help him he's just..."

"That's why he got so good at lacrosse." She stated, now looking up and meeting Derek's green eyes. "And how he broke the locker at school today?"

Derek nodded, taking a small step away to give her some more space to process. "When you're a werewolf everything is magnified. Your strength, your senses even your feelings." She knew by the way he said it that the feelings part of the explanation was important. "Scott is so out of control right now because he can't control his emotions and it's putting his life at risk."

"Does that have anything to do with Alison?"

He nodded again. "Her family, they're hunters. The kind that have been hunting us for centuries. Now, she doesn't know the family secret, but unless Scott gets his shit together, she will."

Haylie nodded; it was a lot to process but she was doing it better than could be expected. "Is that why they moved here? To catch that thing?"

Derek took in a breath but decided to move back to the chair, hoping she would follow back to the couch. "The second they read animal attack; they migrate like their own pack." Haylie could tell by the look on his face there was hatred there. A hatred that she couldn't understand. "They don't know who he is, but they know who I am, so I'm trying to lie low."

"By your tone, I assume you don't know either?" He debated being honest with her, then again, he didn't have a reason to lie anymore.

Haylie took in a deep breath and just to try and clear her mind, looked away from Derek and towards the ceiling. She paced a few steps, taking in the burnt down house, before coming to a terrifying realisation. She didn't know how werewolves worked, if it was genetic or you had to be bit like Scott was, but considering what she was being told her mind only went to one place. "Did they do this to your family?"
