Chris Argent opened the door and his face showed a mixture of emotions as he looked to Haylie standing on the other side. But he let himself smile. "Hello Haylie."

"Hi Mr Argent. Is Alison in?"

He shook his head. "No I'm afraid not. But she should be back soon, why don't you come in?"

Haylie watched as he opened the door for her and couldn't help forgetting that he was a werewolf hunter. Right now he was just Alison's dad and she liked Alison's dad. "Why don't you take a seat in the living room? I'll get you something to drink."

She nodded her thanks and moved over the large entryway to the living room she had been in only a few times with Alison and Lydia. Although when she walked in, it looked very different.

All the faces looked up to her when she entered and she knew she had interrupted some kind of meeting. Mrs Argent, both detectives and a few other faces she didn't recognise stared at her. "Here you are." Chris made her jump as he came from behind with a glass of water in his hand.

"I'm sorry I didn't know you had company. I'll go wait in Alison's room." She nearly whispered but he just shook his head. It was Alison mom that responded though.

"Nonsense. It's rare we get to speak to one of Alison's friends alone." Haylie turned back to the incredibly intimidating woman as the faces in the room she didn't recognise started to leave.

Haylie's eyes fell to Dan who forced a tight smile to his face the same moment his partner shifted back on the couch and shook his head. She saw the clear frustration on his face by her presence and it was enough that she wanted to piss him off just a little bit more by taking the seat offered to her opposite him. "That's a beautiful necklace."

Haylie's hand went to the gold around her neck just as she remembered the way Peter stopped in his tracks when he saw it. "Thank you." She forced out. "My mother gave it to me."

"Can I see it?" Haylie was hesitant at first but then slowly nodded as she unclasped it from her neck and handed it over. Alison's mum smiled at the gold band and turned it over like she knew already there was an engraving on the back. Her eyes looked up at Stevens and when Haylie followed that line of sight, the look on his face was unreadable. He too knew what that engraving would say. He knew it was there and for some reason his jaw clenched from it.

Haylie picked up her glass of water and took a sip before chancing the question. "How did you get the scar on your back detective Stevens?"

His eyes left the necklace and turned back to her with a frown. "I think you already know how?" She was the one caught of guard as she pulled the glass away from her lips.

"Josh." Chris warned as he took a seat next to Haylie on the couch. She ignored him.

"No. I don't. That's why I asked."

He moved, leaning forward on his knees. "Do you want a closer look? I think you'll be able to figure it out."

She shook her head. "I doubt it."

"What about if I told you it was an animal?"

"What kind of animal?" She replied quickly, not letting her eyes drop from his challenge for even a second.

"A big one."

"Well that's unfortunate. You should be more careful."

The rest of the room watched their exchange but neither of them dropped their eyes. "How about, I tell you about my scar and you tell me about the birthmark behind your ear?" Haylie lost as her hand went to her ear, just to double check her hair was down but it was too late. Josh's expression suddenly turned hateful. "I told you she knew."
