"Something smells good, baby," JJ praised, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist.

"Thank you, I'm using a new recipe," I told him ardently, turning my head slightly so I could kiss his cheek quickly.

"Can I try some?"

I spooned up a mouthful on the ladle and he cautiously took a sip of the sauce, careful not to burn his mouth.

"This is amazing!"

I gave him another peck and let him fret around the kitchen as I finished the soup, enjoying his company and light-hearted conversation.

After I'd cooked the meal and served it into three bowls, I suddenly felt nauseous and excused myself to the bathroom where I proceeded to throw up.

"Mommy?" Flora called, knocking on the door with her little fists.

"I'm okay sweetheart, can you get Daddy for me please?" I called out weakly.

I heard JJ put on some cartoons for Flora to watch while she ate her dinner and then he opened the door gently to see me hunched over the toilet.

"Hey baby, what's wrong?"

"JJ I- I don't wanna worry you but I missed my period and now I'm throwing up. It might be nothing b-but what if I'm pregnant?" I told him worriedly, not knowing how he would take it.

"Let's focus on one thing at a time, sunshine. You focus on getting yourself better and I can go out and buy you a pregnancy test tomorrow, yeah?"

I nodded at his words and he pressed a gentle kiss to my sweaty forehead before putting my hair up in a ponytail in case I was sick again. JJ brought me in some water and some medicine but the sickness seemed to have passed, so I joined my family at the dinner table and managed to keep my food down.

Since my first time having sex with JJ a few months ago, my sex drive had been pretty high and we did it most nights, but I always tried to be safe. Sometimes if we were tired though, JJ would just pull out, but now I was worried that might not have been enough.

When JJ handed me the pregnancy test the next day, and sat outside the door waiting for me to tell him the result, I thought back to a few years ago when I'd been pregnant with Flora. Even though Flora wasn't his child biologically, seeing how loving he was towards her, and had been all her life, filled me with calmness that I wish I'd had the first time round.

Positive.

I looked nervously at JJ to see how he would react, but his face was breaking out in a huge grin.

"There's a baby in there?"

"Well it's not a baby yet but it will be," I chuckled.

"My baby's in there! I'm gonna be a dad!" JJ grinned, wiping the tears from his eyes and kissing my stomach.

Being pregnant was definitely easier the second time round, because I knew what to expect. We didn't want to break the news to our friends immediately, but they started noticing when I stopped drinking and always seemed to wear one of JJ's baggy T-shirts despite the hot weather.

"Guys, we have something to tell you," I said one day when we were all hanging out on Sarah's boat.

"Sunny's pregnant! With my baby!" JJ told them excitedly.

Needless to say, everyone was happy for us, and Flora was over the moon to be getting a baby sibling. Thanks to JJ and I working so much, we were able to move out of our apartment and into a bigger house, so that Flora wouldn't have to share a room now that she was growing up a bit. I spent all of my maternity leave decorating the baby's bedroom and my favourite part of the day was when JJ would come home, Flora in tow after picking her up from school and praise me on what a good job I had done decorating. I loved our little family.
