It was close to midnight, with the moon being the only luminous body in the dark sky. The sky engulfed the moon, the darkness cherishing the moonlight. Anika stared at the moon, lost in its beauty. She had changed into a saree of soft, cotton fabric, which the maid had brought. Harikela was a beauty, it was surrounded by forests from two sides. The chamber which she was given, seemed to have the most beautiful view.
The large window offered the tranquil view of a small lake and the moon. It was slightly chilly and the rain had not paused. Thoughts of the day floated in her mind, as she waited for her husband. Maybe he wouldn't come. It was already late. Why did he promise then? She couldn't help but feel hurt. Finally, after shedding a few tears, she decided to retire for the night.
Just then, she felt a hand being placed on her shoulder. Anika quickly turned, her eyes landing on those mysterious orbs once again. Anika quickly fixed the front part of the saree, which was lowered. She don't look up, nor did he remove his hand. Anika sat up on the seat, making space for the man to sit. She did not look up. The silence engulfed them both.
Anika pulled her legs up to her chest, wounding her arms around them. The blameless blue eyes shifted their attention to the moon, at which the champagne eyes had been staring.
"Kya dekh raahi hai aap, Rani sa? Chaand? Ya phir uski pani mei parchayi?" (what are you staring at, Queen? The moon or it's shadow?)
"Chand ke khud rehte kaun kafir uski parchayi dekhega?" (who would look at it's shadow, when the moon itself is present)
Shivaay smiled, as his wife turned to look at him, his eyes unmoving.
"Ye chand thi ajeeb hai," (this moon is confusing) she spoke, her gaze steady.
"Kyun?" (why)
"Andheron mein saath deke umeed deta hai, pair kabhi kabhi khud hi inn andheron mein chup jata hai," (it gives hope in darkness, but sometimes hides itself in that very darkness)
"Phir toh hum insane bhi ajeeb hai, akhir saari umar toh hum bhi nehi saath dete" (then even we, humans, are confusing as we don't stay at all times)
"Phir toh har koyi amar hona chahta hoga, saari umar rehne ke liye?" (then everyone would want to be immortal, to stay forever)
"Amar hone k liye toh marna parta hai, Anika. Koyi marna bhi toh nehi chahta," (we have to die for being immortal and nobody wants to die either)
Shivaay transferred his gaze on his beautiful wife, who managed to amaze him even in a simple sari. Anika still had her bindi and nose ring, according to their tradition. Her eyes were teary, fixed on the man who was sitting beside her.
Shiaavy's heart clenched at the sight of those unshed tears floating in those beautiful eyes.
"Itna dard agar dil me dabaye rakkhengi, toh ankh toh bhar aayenge hi na," (if you keep so much pain buried in that heart, then surely the eyes will get filled with tears)
