We were able to run faster fueling ourselves on all the darkness surrounding us. We had long passed the Gap of Rohan now and were passing through Dunland when we slowed a little. Khumal had told me that the Dundain rangers dwelt here protecting the ring. We knew we would have trouble passing through the lands so we agreed that 6 of the others would draw them off and join us in our search later. I drew my hood further down my face with a gloved hand. I could feel another's presence. Tao snorted as he sensed it to. Suddenly an Arrow flew past my head narrowly missing me. Despite the fact the arrow could not have harmed the Nazgul it had skimmed dangerously close to me. I tried to see where it had came from as more arrows erupted ahead of us. I heard a yell and a dozen of cloaked men charged at us. A few of them were on horse but the rest were on foot making them easy to kill. As planned, six others took of. Some followed and others stayed to fight the rest off. We slayed them all and galloped off leaving there bodies in the open. I let go off my reigns as we rode and raised my bloody arms feeling the air whip around my ears. We road along a path for a few hours until Khumal stopped. "Split up, find the ring." He instructed.
The others went without question but a feeling told me to stay further out of the shire. I could sense the ring was moving but in what direction I could not tell.
"I will stay closer to this area" I told Khamul. He looked questioning but his face softened into realization as he felt the presence of the ring tugging somewhere."You go further north." I told him. "Occupy the roads there. I will occupy the south." He nodded and spurred his horse with his cloak flapping around him. The dawn broke leaving the morning and I found a well-used road to see if anyone was on it. I only trotted trying not to bring anymore hostility to the air. I went over a hill and my ears were wired to the sound of a dog barking. There was a small thatched roofed house with a round door with a chimney with smoke puffing out of it. The dog cowered as I came closer. He scratched the door letting out terrified whimpers. I approached a little more, Tao stepping slowly and carefully. The door opened with a creak and I halfing that reminded me so much of the one I saw at Erebor stepped out. He was very scared and I wondered what had driven him out of his house.
"Hello" he said nervously. I rolled my eyes and decided not to engage myself in any of his folk friendliness.
"Shire, Baggins" I hissed.
"N,no Baggins here," he stammered. There at Hobbiten." I hissed and spun Tao back up the hill where we had came. It was getting closer to midday now and the sun was bright, showing me any fresh signs of hobbits. If the Baggins was at Hobbiten then the others would have had more luck. I wondered if Khamul had found any signs of the halflings, assuming they really were moving east. As I was about to enter the shire I heard a Nazgul cry. "Come, They are here" It was Khamul who must of found them on the second road. I turned into the scrub of the side of the road and galloped through the trees. Tao understood the hunt for the halfings was important and took me faster then I had ever been before. We ran 7 miles until we barreled out of the scrub on the road. We halted and looked either side of us. The road was overgrown but used certainly, hours ago. I heard the thunder of hooves coming toward me and I saw the other Nazgul heading to Khamuls call. I joined in with them until we saw him on his horse in front of us.
"The Halflings are near." I felt there presence close and I have felt the fear and in the air. "Find them" He said in his cold voice.
The Nazgul and I took off in different directions through the bush. I passed through an old forest but the others went round, they told me it was not for the living dead but I passed through easily. I reached the edge of Bree as it was darkening. I sensed the ring so strongly that I knew the hobbits were close. I heard a Nazgul cry only a mile away.
"Find the halflings, kill anyone in you path" It rung out.
The moon was high. I would see shadows of my peers slinking through trees but no sign of the halflings, they were hiding but I could tell they were moving closer to Buckleberrry River for what reasons I could not tell. An urgent rustle of the bush behind me alerted me to 4 halflings with curly hair and travelling cloaks. They were out in the open now sprinting to the river. I swiveled Tao around and we began to cover the ground to my fathers' triumph. I called out and seconds later I heard the sound of frantic galloping emerging from the scrub. Then I saw it. A ferry docked at the bank of the river. They ran hard and I new I could catch them now. The last halfing was lagging behind like he wanted me to catch him. That's him, the ring bearer, I thought. The other Nazgul were behind me but I was the closet.
"Frodoooo" Called one of the hobbits who had already reached the ferry while the others frantically untied it. The call had seemed to woken up the halfing as he was now sprinting to the slowly moving ferry. I was catching, I could slow down now. The ferry was further than he could jump but as he reached the edge of the river he leapt incredibly onto the moving boat. In the split second I was shocked but I was awoken by Tao's sudden jolt as stopped at the edge of the river. I let an angry scream and turned Tao sharply to join the others who were riding single file along the banks of the river. We would find a crossing soon and when we did, we would find the ring regardless to what would stand in our way.
