I'm so sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been reading Twilight and I was so distracted I didn't even think to update. I have now finished Twilight and the school holidays are tomorrow so expect updates more frequently. Also I was so surprised to see how many people have read this story and added it to there reading list! Thank-you all. Now, on to the story. (If you can remember it)
The trudge down the mountain was nothing like going up. For one thing the storm let up a little, and the snow wasn't nearly as thick. Exhausted, Frodo and Sam swapped places with Merry and Pippen on Tao's warm safe back. The mood lightened considerably after that and there was conversation between the hobbits and Boromir. They were laughing and making jokes, there voices echoing off the mountains around us. I took the opportunity to talk to Aragorn, he had pained look in his eyes and they were glassy and distant. I knew he was thinking about Arwen. I missed her terribly too. Her soft laugh, her likeable nature and her trust made her the first true friend I ever had except Tao of course.
"You'll see her soon," I said. Aragorn nodded.
"Her kin sail west into the undying lands, she will be torn, to stay in her rightful place with her family and friends or to stay in the mortal world." He said without emotion
"I, I didn't know." I stammered at the news. She never told me, now I see why.
"Perhaps you could leave with her?" He shook his head sadly.
"I wish I could, but if we win this war I have duty."
"Oh, yes. You're the king." The kingly title didn't really suit Aragorn's character, He was shy, not ready to step up to his kingly role, both the witch king and the Gondorain had demanding natures, basking in there luxuries.
"I killed who I believed to be the last king, at the time I felt bad but I couldn't show it. Now, I am glad that there is a new king." He gave me a look of interest,
"The king you speak of, they say he was killed by the Witch King of Angmar for the hand of his slave bride." His face morphed into recognition, "You?" I nodded.
"Yes, I killed him as he was trying to give me a better life." He looked at me sympathetically.
"You have a strong heart lady Elinor." I smiled at his compliment."We reached the bottom of the mountain in the evening but by the time we got to the location of the gates, night had completely fallen. Gandalf and Gimli were discussing how to get into kingdom. So far they had just argued. I was more upset with the prospect of leaving Tao to care though. Aragorn and Sam were moodily undoing the luggage off Bill. Sam had a tear rolling down his face.
"I'm sorry Sam but the mines are no place for a pony." Aragorn said rationally. He then turned to me expectantly,"Come on Elinor, Tao must protect Bill." I watched as the two horses trotted back the way we came. I missed Tao already. He was forever my friend when no one dared look at me. He had been in the wild before but the high pitched sound of wolves that stung the air made my nervous.
"In Gondor," Boromir drew up behind me. "We have the finest black beasts, when this is over, my father would not think twice about giving you one."
"And why, would a want to ride anything other then Tao." I retaliated. Boromir looked at me like I was a silly girl who knew nothing and started again. "You cannot stay in the shadow claiming to be light for long, Elinor." He stretched the name out like it was poison in his mouth. I had enough, it was time that I showed him that I was not a weak elf he had seen serving him food at Rivendell.
"Do you know why I joined the fellowship? I asked the anger pouring into my words. "To protect the ring and it's bearer. Do you know what I protect it with?"
He looked at me quizzically. I pulled out the silver blade, and gently poked the tip into his chest with it."Like. This." I hissed angrily.
"You may wheel a elven blade but the age of elven warriors have long passed. The age of men has begun and you, you are just a piece of his game!" He shouted madly. I knew this was not Boromir talking, it was the ring, it had kept a hold of him since the mountain, driving him into insanity. He pulled out is sword and began to try and stab me with it. Still holding my own sword I counter blocked his attempts to kill me. "Stop!" I cried. He needed to wake up. Aragorn ran up to him and shook him. His eyes suddenly widened as he realized what had happened.
"Elinor. I'm sorry." He panted. I turned away without showing any emotion. He provoked me but it was the ring, it's power had drawn him to say what he thought. The hobbits and Gimli looked amazed, not truly sure what happened. Gandalf's face was also expressionless. He was probably thinking the same as me. Boromir went and sat on rock viciously throwing rocks into the water. I new that was not a good idea but I said nothing. There was silence throughout the group when we realized that we couldn't get into the mine. Suddenly Frodo spoke up,
"What is the elvish word for friend?"
"Mellon" Gandalf answered just as the doors began to creak open revealing a dark room. We walked in listening to Gimli's claims about the dwarves but the room felt sick, sad and empty.
"This is no mine!" Boromir said speaking for the first time.
"It is tomb!" I said looking at the long rotten carcasses of dwarves.Legolas knelt down to one of them. "Goblins" he hissed.
Haha you know what's going to happen so it's not really a cliffhanger. Anyways thanks for watching and have a great Easter.🐰🧡
