Aiko's POV:
I was finally at the exam site. Everyone was staring at me. The atmosphere was incredibly tense. A moment later everyone went back to what they were doing. A short weird-looking creature greeted me.
"Hello. Please take your number." The creature said. It handed me a tag which said '357'. "Be careful with it. Wear it on your chest the whole time."
"Hey. Your first time here?" A man asked me when the green creature walked away. I turned my head towards him. "I'm Tonpa. This is my thirty-fifth attempt for the hunter exam. I guess you can say I'm an exam veteran, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me."
The guy, Tonpa, took out two cans from his bag. "Here's a drink. You know, a little something to mark our acquaintance." He offered me a drink.
"Thanks." I said plainly. I took a sip from the can. 'Poison, huh? You really think that's all it takes? Well, I guess I'll play around with you for a while.' I thought with a barely visible smirk.
"Oh- Ow! My stomach! That hurts! Ow! Ow!" I pretended to be sick as I clutched my stomach. A few seconds later, I let go of my stomach.
"You're gonna need a lot more than that to beat me." I took out a knife that I had hidden out and aimed it at his neck. "Don't underestimate me. I can kill you here and now. Get it?" I threatened.
"Y-Yes!" He said as I let him go. 'Seriously, are the applicants all this stupid? Man, this will be a long and difficult exam.' I took out a lollipop from my bag and unwrapped it. I put it in my mouth and walked to the wall of the huge hall.
I looked at the knife I had. It reflected my image. My purple hair was in a messy braid. I untied it and then tied again, this time in two ponytails. I hid my knife under my hoodie carefully so that it wouldn't fall out or hurt me. I pulled my hood up to cover my face and went to sleep. I haven't gotten any sleep since, um... Last week? I woke up when I heard a shout. I got up to see that the jester, number 44, stood in front of a man whose arms turned into petals. The man was on his knees. He was the one that was shouting. It made sense; his arms were turning into petals after all.
"Oh, how peculiar..." The jester spoke. "His arms seem to have become flower petals. No smoke and mirrors here. Do take care. When you bump into someone, you really should apologize."
Shivers ran up my spine. I turned to look at everyone. They all looked scared as well. I saw Tonpa talking to three people. One of them was a young boy who looked about my age. He had spiky, black hair and large hazel-brown eyes. Another one had long blonde hair and grey eyes. 'He looks... Familiar.' I thought to myself. The last male was tall and fairly muscular. He had black hair and brown - maybe black - eyes. He was probably in his thirties. I saw Tonpa take out four cans of juice, one for himself and the other three for them. I rushed over to there without Tonpa or any of the three noticing. I tapped Tonpa's shoulder. He turned around and shivered when he saw me.
"Hey Tonpa!" I said in my sweet voice as I faked a smile.
"H-Hey!" He said nervously. I looked at the cans.
"Oh! Tonpa! You're still trying to poison the rookies?" I revealed his goal. "I thought I taught you a lesson. Don't you remember? I taught you not to underestimate people." He gulped in fear. "Come on~! Don't tell me you already forgot~" He nodded, showing that he remembers. He turned around and, without saying a word, ran for his life. I turned to look at the three males who were watching Tonpa. They probably noticed I was watching them because the three of them shifted their gaze to me as soon as Tonpa was out of sight.
"Oh- Sorry, I haven't introduced myself, have I? I'm Aiko Ikaria. Pleased to meet you!" I introduced myself. The blonde's eyes widened. I looked at him, confused but slightly surprised. 'He's definitely him.' I thought as I kept staring at the blonde.
"I'm Gon! Thank you for saving us!" The spiky-haired boy said.
"Well, it's not like it would kill you. It was just some laxatives. They're supposed to make people feel ill almost immediately after drinking it." I informed him.
"Well, thank you anyways. My name is-" The blonde, Kurapika, was cut off by my now cheerful voice.
"Kurapika!" I said as I waved at him.
"So, you are her. I thought you looked familiar." He smiled.
"Good. I was starting to think you've forgotten me." I said.
"Eh?! Kurapika, you know her?" The old man asked.
"Kurapika is my childhood friend. I knew him since I was 8!" I answered.
"Oh, alright. I'm Leorio. Nice to meet you." The old man replied.
"Same to you." I told him. I turned around and looked at all the other applicants. "Well, bye for now. I'll see you later."
I walked a few meters away. I was looking for Tonpa. 'Ugh, I really should have taken some water or something.' I mentally facepalmed at my stupidity. When I found Tonpa, I simply walked to him, this time without surprising him. He took a step back.
"No need to worry. I won't hurt you, I just want some-" I was interrupted by a boy calling Tonpa.
"Hey, Tonpa-san!" The voice said. I looked over to who it belonged to. It was a boy with silver hair and ocean blue eyes. He looked quite pale. He was waving at Tonpa with one hand, holding his skateboard in the other. "Can I have some more of that juice?"
"Eh? Sure?" Tonpa answered confused and annoyed at the same time. Tonpa handed the kid a can. The boy opened it and drank from it. 'I guess he already knows? Well, it's too late to help him anyways.'
"Oh yeah, can I have some too? It tastes pretty good, I'll tell you that. Also, I forgot to bring water, so can you give me two cans or something?" I said as I rubbed my head. He handed me two cans and I opened one of them while holding the other. The boy looked over at me as I was drinking from it.
"That's poisoned, you know." He turned away after he finished his juice. I nodded showing that I knew. He looked at Tonpa.
"Worried? Don't be. Poisons don't affect me." The silver-haired boy reassured him.
"Cool!" I said, completely forgetting that I was the same.
"Huh? Aren't you immune to poison too? You're drinking some right now." He asked.
"Oh, right! Eheh, sorry, totally forgot..." I said embarrassed with my awful memory. He turned around then started walking away. I thanked Tonpa and went back to find Kurapika and the others. I pressed on the plain white buttons on my pastel purple sneakers to turn my shoes into roller-skates. 'This never gets boring to watch.' I thought as I watched my sneakers turn into roller-skates. Just as I was about to look for everyone, there was a ringing sound and the ground was shaking. The gate opened to reveal a purple-haired man with a moustache, no mouth, and long legs.
"I apologize for the wait. The entry period for the hunter applicants has ended. The hunter exam will now begin!" The man said.

A/N: Thank you for reading! This is my first story, so that means a lot of support. Cover made with Canva. Hopefully I'll be putting pictures of Aiko so that you can imagine her (sorry I'm just bad at drawing) but I will make a character profile for her.
Important: I do not own Hunter x Hunter or any of its characters. The only character I own so far is Aiko and later on you will meet the rest of them.
