"Can I ask you something?" Justin said as he entered the living room.
"Go for it." I replied without looking away from the television.
"Would you mind giving me a lift to the train station if it's not a problem."
"That's fine."
"It's just that Will said she would but she's out with Courtney."
"I said it's fine." I said as I smiled at Justin.
"Thank you."
"Why are you so nervous?"
"What?"
"You're so jumpy and you just seem different."
"I'm fine, I'm just gonna go grab my bag from upstairs."
"Alright." I watched Justin disappear upstairs before switching off the television and slipping on my boots. I was just pulling on my jacket when Justin reappeared.
"Are you sure you don't mind?"
"It's fine."***
We pulled up at the train station and Justin went to open the car door before turning to face me. "Aaron?"
"Yeah."
"I think we need to stop whatever this is, you need to stay with Chad."
"What?"
"It's just that I'm going to California for a year."
"You're what?"
"I'm going to a drama school there and well, I just think it'll be better with Chad, you can see him everyday and you can just forget about me, it'll be so much easier for you."
"But I want you."
"I wasn't going to tell you; I didn't want to ruin it but Chad's going to propose to you tonight."
"What?"
"So, you can say yes, stay with Chad and forget about me."
"You're forgetting I want you though."
"At least think about it, for me?"
"Fine."
"Thanks for the lift." I just stared after Justin as he got out the car.***
"Are you done with these?" Chad and I looked up at the waitress and nodded.
"Thank you." I muttered as she took away the empty plates.
"Aaron?"
"Yeah."
"I love you, and that's why," he got down on one knee, "Will you marry me." I could feel various people staring at us. I just stared at Chad, what Justin had said in the car kept whirring around my head. "Aaron?"
"What?"
"Don't leave me hanging here." I just nodded and Chad smiled before slipping the ring onto my finger. "Don't blame me if you don't like the ring, Justin chose it." Chad laughed.
"He did?"
"Mhm, he pointed it out and I knew it was the one."
"It's nice."
"You don't sound very excited."
"I'm just surprised."
"Was it a good surprise?"
"Of course."
