We left the cinema just as it was growing dark. "I had fun today." Aaron said before lighting a cigarette. "I guess I did too."
"Is spending time with me really that bad?"
"I swear you've asked me that before." I pulled out my phone and unlocked it. Aaron peered at my background and started to laugh. "We look so weird in that photo."
"I like it." I muttered.
"Out all the photos we took together, why have that one as your background? I mean we weren't even dating."
"Well, it was the night we first met Sharon and that night was the night I finally came out to someone."
"I was the first person you told?" Aaron asked. I just nodded before clicking onto Instagram. "Why me?"
"I just knew you'd know what to say, and I guess I kinda looked up to you." I replied as I scrolled through my feed. "We best get back, I'm working tonight." I swiped Instagram away and locked my phone once more. "Right."
We got back to Aaron's house and he let us in. "I'm gonna use the bathroom so don't come in."
"I won't." I sat down on the couch and watched Aaron disappear upstairs. My phone started vibrating in my hand. I accepted the call and was greeted by Brooke's voice.
"Hi."
"What do you want?"
"I hear you're at Aaron's?"
"He told you?"
"Yeah, how do you feel?"
"It's weird but it is what it is."
"Have you met Chad?"
"Yeah, he's really nice and sweet."
"Why you talking about me?" Aaron laughed.
"Oh, ha ha, full of yourself much?"
"I'm one of the nicest people you'll ever meet."
"Are you now? Anyway, I'm talking to Brooke."
"Tell her I say hi." Aaron called as he walked into the kitchen.
"Are you still there?" I asked Brooke.
"Yeah, I am."
"Aaron says hi."
"You need to keep your distance, you don't want to get too comfy being around Aaron, he's with Chad and they're happy, you don't want to come between them."
"Maybe you're right, maybe I'll book into a hotel."
"Do what you think is right and when you get back, we'll meet up, alright?"
"Deal."
"I'll leave you to it then."
"Yeah."
"Have fun." Brooke hung up and I sat there with my phone in my hand.
"Do you want a drink?" Aaron asked as he emerged from the kitchen.
"No thanks."
"What's wrong?" He asked as he sat opposite me in a vacant armchair.
"Nothing."
"You sure about that?"
"I might book into a hotel."
"Why? I thought we were alright?"
"Mhm." I replied as I pulled on a sweater from my case.
"That's mine." Aaron stated.
"What?"
"That sweater, it's mine, you stole it from me when we were, you know..."
"Sorry, do you want it back?"
"Keep it." I pulled the sweater off and handed it to Aaron before grabbing another from my case. "I said you could keep it."
"I know." I made sure I had everything before zipping up my case and standing up. "Thanks for having me."
"You don't have to go."
"I don't want to make things awkward or get too attached and comfortable around you again and I certainly don't feel like lying to people again."
"Do you want a lift?"
"I'll get a cab."
