"I wondered when you'd get here!" Willam said as she pulled me into a hug.
"The trains were delayed."
"C'mon we can go to my place and get ready."
"Are you sure he won't mind?"
"No, he's glad of the help actually." I climbed into Willam's car and we set off towards her house. "So..."
"What?"
"Is there a guy on the scene yet?"
"No."
"You're boring, live a little."
"No thanks, I'm still getting over someone."
"How long ago did you say that was?"
"Five years."
"Exactly, get over it and get back out there girl!"
"We'll see."
We pulled into the driveway and Willam grabbed a bag of alcohol from the backseat. "Did I tell you that you'll be stopping at my friend's house?"
"No."
"Oh well Courtney is in my spare room and my friend Katya is on the couch, but you'll love my
friend, she's really nice."
"Mhm." I followed Willam inside and stared around the sunlit hallway.
"Sorry it's shit."
"It looks great."
"Bullshit."
"It's not." I laughed.
Willam dropped her keys into a bowl by the door and turned to face me once more.
"Right let's go." Willam took my hand and I followed her into a room full of brightly coloured wigs.

We arrived at the club and we headed inside. "DARREN?!" Willam's voice echoed around. A man stood up from behind the bar. "You called?"
"This is Alaska." Darren hurried over and kissed me on both cheeks.
"Great, thanks for helping out, we've actually been understaffed."
"It's fine."
"Right you two can start by wiping the tables and mopping the floor, Mark will be in soon to sort the lights." I followed Willam once more into a small changing area out back.
"You can keep that in here." Willam said as she nodded at my bag. I handed it to her, and she shoved it into a blue metal locker before slamming it shut.
"Is there anyone else working tonight?" I asked as I applied another coat of lip gloss.
"Um Kat is but I don't know about anyone else."
"Who will I be staying with?"
"I'll show you if she turns up."
Everything was soon done, and the club filled up. People sat shouting over the music in booths, drinking at the bar and grinding on the dancefloor.
"Is it always this busy?!" I shouted at Willam over the music. She nodded before handing a guy his drink with a wink. He handed her a tip and she shoved it down her bra. "That's how it's done Kat." She shouted to the blonde, who I instantly recognised, that was stood the other end of the bar serving a group of men. "Piss off, we'll see at the end of the shift!"
"Loser has to buy a group of people a round of drinks!"
"Deal." They shook hands before Katya turned to face me. "Do I know you from somewhere?" She asked. I shook my head.
"I don't think so."
"Right." Katya said before getting back to work.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked Willam.
"Go collect some empty glasses!" I nodded and made my way in and out of people whilst collecting glasses from various places.

I was glad when the shift was over and Willam dragged me outside. "Right she's here, I saw her earlier, but she's probably smoking, c'mon."
"Who is?"
"My friend." Willam dragged me around the corner where I came face to face with someone, I hadn't seen for five years.
"Sharon, this is Alaska, Lasky this is Sharon." Sharon stared at me and I bit my lip before looking down.
"Thanks for letting her stay, I would kick Court out, but she's covered for me recently and I owe her fifty bucks."
"Yeah..." Sharon said before taking a drag.
"Are you alright?" Willam asked Sharon.
"Fine."
"Right Lasky, I'll leave you with Sharon, lemme go get your case." Willam stumbled away leaving us stood in silence. Sharon chucked her cigarette on the floor before stamping on it and turning to face me. "Don't say anything to anyone."
"Don't worry, I'm only here for a week."
"Good."
Willam returned dragging my case. "Here you go, I'll see you tomorrow." She squeezed my hand before making her way back inside.

I followed Sharon into the house and stood awkwardly in the front room. "You'll have to sleep on the couch, the mattress for the spare room isn't on the actual bed yet."
"It's fine."
She stalked off before returning with some bedding, "bathroom is upstairs, second door on the right."
"Thanks, but I can go if this is a problem?"
"As long as nothing is said we should be fine."
I looked at all the photos before stopping at one on the windowsill, I felt Sharon was watching me. I picked up the metal frame with bats engraved into it. Sharon was kissing a guy on the cheek. I sighed placed it back down, "you changed the photo."
"What?"
"That's the frame I gave you."
"Oh, yeah."
"Well goodnight I guess."
"Yeah whatever."
