Ensuring Safety

"Wow there's going to be a ball?" Gon asked happily, bouncing up and down on his toes a little.

Killua smiled at Gon's excitement but couldn't match it. "They are held once a month just to make sure our connections stay strong with the noble families." Killua explained.

Gon gave him a confused look. "Why would it matter if the royals has good connections? You guys are royalty." Gon asked.

Killua thought back to when he had that exact question. "The power we hold is pretty superficial honestly. If the people all decided they didn't want us to rule they could take us down with numbers. And it's not like my dad and mom rule justly. The nobles have connections with products because they own most of it. That connects them to the people. They spread propaganda and wealth to the people my family likes, and keep the people they don't like poor and easy to control." Killua explained.

"Wow that seems really harsh." Gon commented

"Yeah it is. I hate it." Killua said under his breath.

The door opened and Gotoh walked in. "The young prince and his guard are wanted in the ball room." He rehearsed.

"Okay. We will be down as soon as we get dressed." Killua replied. Killua straightened out his shirt and walked out the door with Gon close behind him.

The two boys walked down to the ball room to find it flooded with maids and butlers setting things up for the monthly ball.

"Wow. Look at all the stuff they setting up!" Gon pointed out in an excited whisper. He looked around wildly at the shining decorations that were being placed perfectly by hand.

"Oh seems like they are bringing out the diamond themed decorations." Killua commented casually.

"Hello Killua. Good to see you." Illumi said from behind him.

Killua and Gon jumped back in surprise.

"I see that you choose the only young knight to guard you. Seems like a very childish decision." Illumi commented plainly.

Killua felt anger bubble up in himself. He looked over at Gon as if to say 'I'm sorry'.

"I'm also the only knight who knows how to handle the wild and nature aspects. I also know a lot of medical herbs and plants that work better than what most doctors give out. Plus I'm sure it makes Killua feel safer having a boy his age with him compared to a random adult stranger." Gon explained.

Killua looked at him with a shocked and impressed expression.

Illumi looked down at Gon with his plain dead eyes. "Really? My apologize." He stated and then walked away stiffly.

"Wow I can't believe you actually got him to apologize!" Killua whispered happily shaking Gon's shoulders.

"Prince Killua. You are needed to review the new safety measures that have been put in place." Gotoh called.

Killua reluctantly let go of Gon's shoulders and walked off.

Gon went to go follow him but he was cut off.

"I'm sorry. The guard must wait for them to come back. They will be taken to the king and only the elite guard get to be in the same room as him." Gotoh explained.
