The day dragged on and Killua waited anxiously for his meeting with Gon. He couldn't help but get a nervous pit in his stomach whenever he thought about it."It'll be find. Alluka said you won't get caught. You'll be fine." Killua assured himself.
The sun finally set and Killua got dressed in the most casual clothes a prince was allowed to have. He was unsure whether or not Gon had been told the truth yet, but if he hadn't he didn't want to expose himself. He threw on a white button up shirt and blue pants. He ruffled up his hair a little and put on a pair of black shoes.
He quietly slid over to the door and cracked it open. He carefully looked down the hallway making sure that nobody was there. He stepped out and started to race down the hollow hallway his heart bursting with excitement.
The hallway was dark except for the few faded lights from the moon outside. Killua made his way through the maze of the castle and to the back door that led outside. He had just been there that morning, but to him it felt like years.
Killua pushed open the door open and was met with the bright face of Gon.
"Killua!" Gon exclaimed.
"Shhhhh!" Killua hissed. He blindly covered Gon's mouth with his hands making sure he wouldn't say anything else. He looked around to make sure no one heard Gon's shouting. His eyes slowly tracked over every space around them. They were safe.
Killua turned back around to see that Gon was looking at him plainly with his hands still covering his mouth. Killua's cheeks blushed brightly as he quickly pulled his hands away.
Killua cleared his throat trying to cool his cheeks down. "S-sorry, you just. You have to be quiet until we get a little ways away from the castle. I'm not supposed to be here." Killua explained in a hushed whisper.
The night was so deathly quiet it felt almost criminal to break the silence.
Gon, completely unfazed, nodded.
"Let's go back to the knight sacks." Gon replied in a happy whisper.
Killua nodded and followed behind Gon as he led him forward. Killua watched as Gon happily navigated his way through the dense forest. A smile permanently stretched across his face while at random moments he would turn his head to look at something.
Killua was taught from the moment he was born to be careful in everything he did. Fight only when you have to and never someone stronger. Never break rules that aren't worth it. Never step out of line. He learned how to control every part of himself from the moment he could think. His heart, his breathing, and most of his feelings. Watching Gon jump and look at everything, Killua couldn't help but think to himself, 'why is he being so reckless?'
"What are you looking at?" Killua asked.
Gon turned around a little confused for a second. "Everything around us!" Gon exclaimed.
There were a few seconds of silence where Killua could do nothing but think. "What do you mean?" Killua finally asked.
Gon stopped in his tracks and turned around with a smile still on his face. He walked beside Killua. "Everything around us in the forest." Gon answered as he held out a hand to him. Killua nervously looked from Gon to his hand. It was weird. As long as he could remember he had only ever held Alluka's hand, and it was to comfort her. Killua couldn't shake how weird it felt to be at the receiving end. Killua carefully took Gon's hand and he pulled him on top of a large fallen tree carpeted with moss.
