Killua and Gon crept side by side through the large house. Everything had a threatening feel to it now that it was dark. The urge to hold onto Gon's hand and squeeze it tight hovered over Killua's heart, but resolved to find the courage within himself. They slowly crept up the stairs paying close attention to the steps that squeezed whenever the slightest amount of pressure was applied.
They crept up to the top floor and where met with a maze of doors scattered throughout the hall.
"How will we know which one us the right one?" Killua asked. He couldn't help but feel a little discouraged when faced with at least six different rooms. "If the research is hidden then this could take forever." Killua added.
"Well if Zushi doesn't come up here that often then he probably wouldn't bother to hide it. It's hard to hide all your life's work in one afternoon." Gon reasoned. He added a bright wide smile and crept to the first door in the hallway"
Killua's heart swelled with love and admiration. 'I can't believe that he can still find the best in things even in situations like this. His smile. It's so-' Killua's wavered after Gon as he glanced into the room.
"Not this one!" Gon hissed in a whisper that was on the verge of breaking into a regular voice.
Killua walked past Gon and to the other door with Gon behind him. They opened the door and found Wing fast asleep snoring.
A shock of terror spread throughout Killua's body like electricity. Wing's deep snoring softened as soon as they opened the door and his breathing went nearly silent as they carefully closed the door behind them.
Gon and Killua gave each other worried glances and tiptoed down the hall.
"Do you think we woke him up?" Gon asked shakily.
Killua took a few deep breaths. "No I don't think so. I think we should just be even more careful. He's probably only half asleep." Killua whispered back.
Gon walked ahead of Killua and studdenly froze.
"Hey what's wrong?" Killua asked. He crept closer and suddenly a weird, alluring sensation came over him. By some gut feeling Killua could tell there was something in the room at the back of the hallway.
They both walked down the hall and quietly opened the door. As soon as Killua's eyes met the inside of the room he felt like he had all the answers in front of him.
The room itself was nothing special. It was a small closed off room with a singular window at the side with dark wood making up the floor, walls, and the ceiling. It was filled top to bottom with interesting objects that had a unique feeling to them. Colorful books, rare and endangered plants, glasses filled with objects and liquids that ranged from insects to a goop like substance.
"Wow." They signed as the room seemed to shine with the curiosity in their eyes.
"What exactly do you two think you're doing in my study?" A voice asked from behind them.
Killua and Gon jumped up and back and were met face to face with a very tired Wing.
"Uhh, I'm sorry we-" Killua started.
"I wanted to see what was up here so I asked Killua to come with me." Gon explained.
Killua looked over at Gon with his mouth slightly open in shock. 'Did he seriously just do that?' A slight blush painted itself on Killua's cheeks.
"Understandable. I'm sure you two were drawn in." Wing commented walking past them to the middle of the room.
Killua glanced over and Gon and he just gave him a slight smile in return, which only caused the blush on his face to darken.
Suddenly the an idea of clarity came over Killua, he could ask Wing some of his questions. Especially now that he is tired.
"What do you mean drawn to room. Why us specifically?" Killua asked.
Wing turned to took at Killua. His deep brown, almost black, eyes met Killua's shiny blue eyes as if trying to make a decision based on Killua's face. Wing turned and picked up a book off the floor.
"You two in particular have very high amounts of nen, especially for children. People with large amounts of concentrated nen can sense the nen in other things." Wing explained as he placed the book on the shelf.
"W-what is nen?" Gon asked. Gon glanced at Killua right after as if unsure if that was the right question to ask.
Wing gave a little laugh. "I'm surprised that you don't even know what it is, especially sense you two have so much. You two have bright futures that's for sure." Wing explained.
He walked to the back of the room and pulled out a chair and two stools. "You'll find out either way if you spend enough time in here, I'd rather supervise you two to make sure you don't break anything if that's the case."
Gon and Killua took their seats on the stool in front of Wing's chair. "Nen is the unique property of our world. It's the power that keeps us living. It's the electrical current in your brain, it's the shock that keeps your heart beating. It's also what keeps water running and plants growing. It's believed nen originated from the sun seeds." Wing explained.
"Oh you mean the nature lights!" Gon exclaimed.
"Yes. It's the origin of life on this planet itself. Nen can also be transferred from one thing to another. The most common form of this is through eating something or passing it down through genetics." Wing continued.
"Us as humans have a very unique relationship with nen. Through generations, or through extensive training, we can harness the power of nen itself ans use it as our own weapon. Through the years our bodies have been storing up more and more nen than our ancestors until we can fully manipulate nen in it's purest properties. This can take the form of energy blasts or bursts, or it can conceal and even take away energy. But there is a catch. In order to fully manipulate nen our body has blockers that lay just under our skin. The more nen you are born with, typically, the more blockers you will also be born with. Alluka is a rare, but not unheard of case, where a person is born with a large amount of nen but only a thin layer of blockers. This causes the nen in her body to be less like a nature part of the body used an manipulated by the user, and more like a foreign energy that half hazardly responds to any and all reactions from the brain." Wing concluded.
Killua's eyes widened with surprise. His heart shook as he realized the pain that Alluka must have been through all the years she had been alive.
"That does have the adage of the nen acting as wild nen, which can allow the user to have visions of the past and future since nen as an energy isn't effected by time in general. I've also found that other organisms have unique relationships with nen. Through they rare if ever use it like us humans do as a weapon. It's usually used as a way for the plant, or animal, to improve it's body and live longer. By the lack of blockers I have theorized that these things use wild nen in a symbiotic relationship rather than the nen acting as part of the creatures body. Though that's all theoretical." Wing explained.
There was a moment of silence as the boys tried to take in everything.
"So... is there a way to help Alluka have more blockers?" Killua asked.
"In theory, yes. But my nen isn't strong enough. I only understand nen as a whole I don't often train with my own. The best way to get to know your nen in your body to do such an incredible feet is to train with it."
"Is there someone you know who does know how to train with their nen who can help us?" Gon asked.
"Hmm, there is one person. Though you would have to find them."
"Who is it?" Both exclaimed at the same time.
"My old Sensie. Biscuit."
