Chapter 2: The boy on the bench

Back at your desk.

Back at that stupid, boring, daily routine of having to attend classes.

School was never something you truly enjoyed, since it was too easy for you anyways. Since a young age you found out that your IQ was much above average, what directly distinguished you from others, you never had to actually put in any work to be the top student of the class.

This class was so lame to you. As you studied the posters at one side of the classroom, to having a staring contest with the spider chilling in the other corner of the room, you slowly drifted into a daydream.

You were on the roof of a tall building, with your comfort character next to you. The sun was setting quietly and the city looked so lively yet so peaceful, as the daylight was slowly consumed by night. You felt at ease, with them next to you. As you turned your head to look at them, you saw they were already smiling at you, and suddenly started leaning in and you-

"Hirai-san! Are you even paying attention?", Your teachers loud voice shocked you awake. "Just because you get good marks doesn't make it acceptable that you should never bother staying attentive!"

The audacity. Look at you. Scolding me in front of the whole class, while you are doing this pathetic job thinking you're so much better at me. I could roast you right there on the spot.

"Yes, I'm sorry. I will pay attention now", you said politely while giving a faint smile.

Your friends teasingly laughed at you and you scrunched your nose back at them. The rest of class passed and it eventually became lunchbreak. As normal you all had your lunch in the classroom and laughed while chatting and having fun with your girl friends. After finishing up your friends insist on going outside to sit at the fountain, as you guys would always do, but you were up for a change of scenery.

"Why don't we go to the rooftop?".

"Hmm, but I want to sit at the fountain", one of them replied while pouting.

You can be really annoying sometimes you know that

"We always sit at the fountain, Sana-chan, we all know the only reason you like the fountain so much is because Kento's always around there too". You had a point. Your friends were always so obvious in everything they'd do to get attention from their crushes, and it really annoyed you.

"Well..I-".

"Whatever, I'm going up. Bye", you said cutting her off while giving them one last friendly smile before turning and walking out of the classroom.

You walked down the hallways unconcernedly, and found your way to the stairs that led to the rooftop, hoping that no one would be there, as you really wanted some peace from all these students lingering around you. You reached the top of the stairs and opened the door that led outside.

To your surprise the rooftop wasn't empty. You noticed someone sitting solely on the bench in the distance, gazing at the view in front of them. It was a boy from the same year as you.

I don't recognize them. Maybe I should, join him? They could be an interesting person, I wonder what he's like.

You made up your mind, and started walking in the direction of the boy on the bench.
