I adjusted my bag as I entered our compound, shivering from the cold. It was a bungalow, with a little staircase in front. My dad built it before he died and that was one of the things my mum was thankful for. She hated paying rent. I dragged my tired self up the stairs, bending down, I raised the doormat and took the house keys, putting it in the keyhole and opened the door. As I walked in, the homely scent hit my nose and I smiled in content. I quickly closed the door to prevent the cold from coming in. I slumped on the sofa and sighed. It was two in the afternoon, meaning my younger brother wouldn't be back until a few more minutes since he said his lectures were ending by two-thirty today. I went into my room, which was spotless. I smiled, knowing that my brother cleaned up. I dumped my bag in the middle of the room, opening part of the zip and forced out a big polo and a jean bum short. Removing my wig, I placed it on the dummy in my closet, then I removed my clothes as I walked back to where my bag was. I flung it on my bed, my trouser hanging halfway on the bed and my shirt did not make it to my bed at all.

Poor shirt

I wore the clothes I brought out from my bag and headed to the kitchen.

When I finish eating, I'll unpack.

I opened the store, went straight to the instant noodles carton. Bringing out five packets of indomie noodles and four eggs, I walked back to the kitchen. I fried the eggs then began to cook the noodles when I heard the front door open. I heard heavy footsteps and I knew he was running. My brother ran into the kitchen and I turned to face him.

Jesus Christ. This boy has grown.

He walked to me and engulfed me in a bear hug. I felt so small as he was already taller than me. But I've missed him and his hugs and his protectiveness.

"Sister welcome. How was your journey? Hope it was fine?" He asked and pulled away, his hands on my shoulder as he looked down at me, making me feel so small under his gaze.

I swatted his hands away and looked at the noodles, adding more pepper "anybody that hear you will think I'm coming from another state. Abegi"

"Can't you just say it was fine? You ehhh"

I glared at him before looking at what I was cooking "go and change. This indomie is ready oooo"

"Okay," he started unbuttoning his shirt as he walked out of the kitchen. I put off the gas and began to dish the food. After dishing, I took it to the parlour, placing them on the centre table, then went back to the kitchen and brought water. Just then, my brother walked in and sat on the floor beside me. He took the bigger food, which was his own and started eating

"You have come back now somebody will now be eating too much pepper"

I smiled "if you don't want to eat, keep it for me abeg" I retorted

"It's not like you can even finish it sef" he replied and I eyed him

"Just try me" I kept my food on the centre table and looked at him, urging him even though I knew he was right. He rolled his eyes and continued eating. I took my food from the table and continued eating too. "What time will mummy be back?"

"Around eight. Said she's coming back with that her new friend"

"Kai. So she'll now start introducing me now to her. I hate this" I grumbled

"Enjoy"

As I lay on my bed, I listened to the music blasting from my phone. I wondered why my mum wasn't back. My brother said she was coming back by eight and this was nine-thirty but she wasn't back. I heard the front door open and I let out a breath of relief. I got up from my bed and headed to the parlour.
