"Kazeem I'm not going and you're not going to force me" I stated as I folded my hands over my chest.
The past months have been peaceful as Kazeem and I were now cool. Friends even. Surprisingly, Kazeem has not found a reason to insult me or be rude to me. We hung out together and our friends did too.
Somehow, we had gotten close in these months and I was happy. He even started driving me to work
Constance and Nikky were surprised at first, then told me how happy they were that our days of constant fights were over. I was happy that we were living in peace, but now, he was asking for the impossible. This was one of those rare Saturdays that I was free and he was ruining it for me.
"Look Ebby, we won't stay long okay. Let's just show our faces then leave" he pleaded
"No Kazeem. I'm not attending a party your ex-girlfriend is hosting" I replied and turned back to the television.
He sighed, I bet frustrated but I didn't care. How did he expect me, Eberechukwu, to attend a party his ex is hosting?
"Ebere please, try to understand" he pleaded
"Understand what exactly? Why do you want to attend this party Kazeem?" I asked
He looked like he wasn't expecting the question. He closed his mouth and opened it, then spoke "I want to prove to her that I've moved on"
I brought my legs down from the couch, then patting the space beside me softly. He sat down and I sighed "Kaz you don't have to prove anything to her okay? You don't have to prove anything to anyone. I know you want to attend this party because you still love her. I don't know what happened between you two. But I know that if she really wanted you there, she would have invited you since, not calling you few hours to the party. She wants to show you that she can come into your life anytime she wants. But since you want to go, I'll go dress up" he smiled at me and opened his mouth to talk but I lifted my hand stopping him "you won't rush me while I'm dressing up. Since she's your ex, I have to look fabulous"
He laughed and nodded "take your time. I don't mind going late"
"Good"
I walked downstairs, into the parlour and saw Kazeem. He was on the phone, obviously discussing with one of his friends as I heard him argue about going to this party. He was dressed in a black turtle neck and black suit pants, his jacket on the couch. The clinking of my heels got his attention and he turned to me. His lips parted softly and the way he looked at me made me feel like the only person on Earth right now. I walked to him, and stopped in front of him, making him blink
"Jude I'll call you later," he said into the phone. He put his phone in his pocket and looked at me "you look so beautiful"
I smiled and rolled my eyes "thank you. That was the plan" I walked to the couch, picking up his jacket and helped him wear it "dear husband if you're ready, I'm ready"
He grinned at me and shook his head lightly "I'm ready wifey"
We walked into a party that was bubbling. It was a formal party and everyone looked like they just walked out of a magazine. I looked down at my gown and was happy with my choice. I was wearing a black corset dress, which was tight at the bodice, and was gathered at the waist. The straps of the dress were lined with pearls and the front of the dress was beaded. My black heels had a transparent sole. My arm was lopped into Kazeem's hand as he greeted people, introducing me as his wife. There was a lot of press and it was obvious that his ex was a celebrity.
"Who is she again? Your ex I mean" I whispered as I finished the wine in my glass and placed the empty glass on the table
"Adelokun Stephanie. A model" he replied
