I wiped my body as I searched for what to wear. Today was Friday and God knows I wanted to look as casual as possible. Taking my blue skinny jeans, I shimmied into it, buttoning up. I wore my bra and I checked my tops for what to wear. I plucked a white off the shoulder blouse which had 'good day' written on it, then I wore my sneakers. I combed my bushy hair, packing it into a high bun, I did simple makeup. I walked downstairs, into the dining to meet it empty. It seems like Kazeem has gone to work. He has been avoiding me for the past two months and God knows that he has made my life easier. I sat down and Nikky entered the dinning
"Good morning ma" she greeted with a smile
"Nikky good morning. How's Constance?" I asked as she placed a plate of pancakes in front of me
"In the kitchen" she replied and I nodded.
I took the instant coffee, not wanting to drink chocolate this morning. I poured the hot water into my cup, adding a little milk. I took my fork and dug in. I sighed in content as savoured the taste of the pancakes.
Damn these girls can cook
When I was halfway done, Kazeem walked into the dining. He stopped as he saw me, obviously not expecting me to still be at home.
Sorry bro
I continued eating and he sat beside me. Constance came in, greeted us and served him. I replied to her greeting with a smile but Kazeem ignored her.
Rude motherfucker
I placed my cutleries on the plate and stood up, my hand hit the cup and it fell, its contents spilling on the table, trailing down to the floor.
"What is wrong with you? Must you be clumsy? Can't you be fucking careful" Kazeem spat
"Why are you shouting? It didn't pour on you and you're not the person cleaning up" I retorted. I called Constance and she ran in, looking between us. "Please help me clean this up"
Kazeem kept grumbling under his breath but I didn't care. I watched Constance as she cleaned my mess and I felt guilty for making her do it. Thanking Constance when she was done, I headed out. Just then, my phone rang. I took it out to see it was my brother. I smiled and picked the call, placing my phone against my ear.
"My love" I cooed
"What is doing you kwanu?" My brother asked and I burst out laughing. I walked out of the dining and headed out
"Oya what is it?" I asked
"I just wanted to check on you before I go to my class. We haven't talked in a while shaa so I say let me ask you how you are"
I smiled at his thoughtfulness. I missed staying at home, sleeping in his room, chatting with him. I missed him "I'm fine oooo. Just normal" I replied
"Is your husband treating you well?" He asked and I could imagine a frown on his face
"You know how it is. We absolutely hate each other. Well he's been avoiding me for a while and God knows I'm so grateful" I replied as I walked out of the gate and walked to the cab I ordered on Taxify.
"I wish I can get you out of that marriage. You always complain every time we talk and I'm tired of you being unhappy"
I sighed and shook my head. Then remembering he couldn't see me I replied "don't worry about me. I can take care of myself"
"I know but I just want you to be happy. And Kazeem is not doing a good job at keeping you happy. And I'm frustrated that I can't do anything"
Tears well up in my eyes and I blink rapidly to stop them from rolling down "I know Gozie. I know" I whispered. I cleared my throat "how's school?"
