So back in my chapter Alone? Naw, I said that I only knew two people that were out. That's not true. I also know someone that's non-binary, another lesbian, and a FTM trans person, Adam.

The ballet studio that I go to has a receptionist. Ever since I was little there was one that has always been there. I don't remember his name before he transitioned but that's not important. But for future reference we'll say it was Jane.

When I was about 8 I realized that something was different with "Jane". She was dressing different and her voice was different. People were also calling her Adam and referring to her as they, not she.

As an 8 year old that barely knew what gay meant I was very confused. Me and my 9 classmates continued to call him Jane and use the pronouns she/her for the next 2 years.

Looking back I feel horrible about my actions. I was unintentionally invalidating him for who knows how many years!

When I was 11 I started calling "them" Adam and using the they/them pronouns. Little did I know that Adam was using he/him pronouns at the time. I also didn't really know what trans was. I was only 11! My lgbtq+ vocabulary consisted of gay, lesbian, and bisexual back then! Cut me some slack.

Now I call him Adam and use the correct pronouns of he/him. He seems so much more happy as Adam then he did as Jane. (btw he's also gay and is in a very happy relationship)

It was an eye opening experience to see someones transition from female to male. I'm very happy for Adam and for every trans person out there that is able to express who they are.

Question: Do you know any trans people? Have you every unintentionally invalidated someone? What is your favorite article of clothing?
