Continuation of If/Then

Part 15

Meredith looked at the handsome man sleeping in her bed inquisitively. She just didn't get it. She reached out and pinched his nose closed and held her fingers there until his eyes opened wide. She removed her hand and he started to huff aggressively.

"Wha- what?" Derek asked confused. Ten seconds ago he was fast asleep, then, for some reason, his girlfriend decided she didn't want him to breath through his nose anymore. 

"You forgave me too quickly." Meredith said quickly.

Derek sat up in the bed and repeated, "What?"

"You forgave me too quickly!" She repeated with more power.

"Forgive you for what?" He asked tiredly.

"Don't give me that." Meredith said, now annoyed by his perceivably feigned forgetfulness.

"Give you what!?" Derek said, now matching Meredith's annoyance. He honestly had no idea what she was going on about.

"Don't pretend you have just forgotten I cheated on you."

"Oh." Derek said. He gave out a pained, "Ughghg" and fell forcibly back on his pillow. 

"You are supposed to be still mad at me."

"Well apparently I don't always do what I am supposed to do." Derek huffed, "Do you want me to be mad at you?"

"No. Its just- you didn't yell enough. You like yelling. I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop."

"There is no other shoe." Derek said as he tried to close his eyes.

"There has to be a shoe." Meredith said as she pulled on her fingers.

Derek sighed heavily and opened his eyes, he leaned over to Meredith and kissed her gently, "No shoe. I promise."

"You promise?" She asked nervously.

"I said I promise didn't I?" He said while trying very hard to fall asleep.

"Ok. I believe you."

"That's good." By now he was almost completely out.

"Do you want to have sex?"

Derek's eyes popped open and he immediately jolted up like a dog hearing a toy squeak.

Meredith laughed gently, "I will take that as a yes."

The next day Meredith was absolutely exhausted. She plopped herself down on a hard bed in an on-call room. She tried to close her eyes to get some sleep. It turned out that she didn't end up getting much sleep the previous night between her worrying about Derek and doing other stuff about Derek.

Just as she was about to fall into deep unconscientiousness when Alex opened the door abruptly and flipped the light on.

"Oh sorry. I didn't see you there." He said a bit sheepishly.

"Oh it's fine." She replied while still mourning her missing sleep.

"So I uh- heard you and Mc-... Shepherd were on the rocks."

"Nope." Meredith said a little too up-beat. "We are great."

"Oh that's good. I am glad. You deserve to be happy."

"Thanks." She smiled at him while gathering her stuff to leave and get back to work.

"Oh hey Mer... I should probably tell you something before you find out from someone else."

"Oh look at that. Telling me something before I find out from someone else. You've grown!" She quipped.

Alex turned a bit red in a flush of shame. 

Meredith sighed, "It's fine Alex. I was making a joke. We are good."

Alex perked up a bit, "Ok, I am still really sorry Mer."

"It's okay. I get it. Cheating happens. We weren't meant for each other anyways. What did you want to tell me?"

"I um am seeing someone."

Meredith smiled at him, "That intern?"

Alex smiled back at her, "Yea."

"She's pretty. And seems more competent than most of the other interns."

"Yea. She's great. Jo is great."

"Alex."

"Yea?"

"Don't have sex with her bestfriend."

"I won't" Alex snickered a bit.

Meredith left the room and ran straight into Derek.

"Hey! How are you?" He had dropped some papers on the ground and Meredith helped him pick them up. They heard a page ring out from the room she had just exited and Alex stumbled out.

Derek filled to the brim with rage. He knew. He KNEW Meredith wasn't sleeping with that man but he couldn't help but think, I mean, she had done it before. He looked up at her as she had finished picking up his papers and he realized there was another shoe.

Derek was ashamed of himself for feeling this way. He quickly grabbed his papers and mumbled an answer to her previous question. He looked her in the eye and paused. All he wanted to do was ask Meredith about her time in the on-call room with Alex but there was a promise he had to keep. Derek quickly turned around and left at almost a run.

(I seem to be overly descriptive tonight. Anyways, Is there any sort of storyline yall want in this?)
