XXVIII. The One

BREATHE in, breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.

Breathe. In. Breathe. Out.

Clara repeated these words in her head multiple times. She cannot cry now. Maybe later, but not now. Masisira ang make up niya at hindi pa nga nagsisimula ang seremonya.

After months of planning the wedding, Wild's back and forth trips in Manila and Hong Kong, processing of Amihan's transferring of school, and settling in their new home, Clara and Wild are finally getting married.

Buti na lang nga at may wedding planner na kinuha si Wild para tulungan si Clara, though she still insisted to be very hands-on with the entire plan.

Clara wanted a simple wedding with their dear friends and family. No media coverage, no grand set up, no long guestlists. They both wanted it to be solemn and intimate.

Though of course, the media took on the huge news in an instant. They were followed around by the media, trying to get a scoop about their relationship, about Amihan, and their engagement. Hindi lamang nagsasalita ang dalawa sa tuwing naaabutan sila ng media pero hindi nga sila tinantanan ng mga ito hanggat hindi sila nagsasalita, kaya nagpasya ang dalawa na humarap sa publiko at mag-guest sa 'What's The T?', the same talk show Wild was invited to almost a year ago.

Doon nila kinwento ang nangyari sa kanila, excluding the issue why they broke up for five years. Hindi na 'yon dapat malaman ng publiko bilang seryosong bagay ito na hindi dapat basta ituring na chismis lang. The public was so invested in their relationship, na parang tinalo na nga nila ang mga showbiz couples. Clara and Wild didn't enjoy the limelight, but somehow it was unavoidable bilang sikat na tao si Wild.

Ang tagal na pala simula noong muli ko siyang nakita. Mag-iisang taon na simula noong nagkita kami ulit, Clara thought. They definitely came a long way, and they are finally here... a few minutes away from being one in front of God.

"O, anak, ready ka na?" tanong ng kanyang ama. Clara held her bouquet of roses tightly and smiled at her father then nodded. Inalalayan na siya ng kanyang ina at ama na bumaba ng bridal car, at sa labas naman nito ay nakaabang ang kanyang maid of honor na si Erika.

The wedding entourage already started a while ago, atmalapit na siyang sumunod na maglalakad papuntang altar kaya naghanda na siya. Amihan is inside already, as she is of course one of the flower girls.

And her husband to be is also waiting inside, right at the altar.

Clara was so nervous and yet so excited for what's about to happen. Everything was so perfect. She picked the perfect bridal gown for her. A long, satin white trumpet wedding dress with a semi-long trail, a sweetheart neckline, and a lace veil. Clara was also wearing her most beautiful pair of Ever After embellished sandals from Nordstrom's Badgley Mischka Collection.

"Miss Clara, you're up next! Wear your biggest smile for your groom!" wika sa kanya ni Kat, ang wedding planner.

Clara breathed in and out again and smiled. This is it!

Her mom and dad hugged her tightly before going inside the church after Erika went in. Sasalubungin siya ng mga magulang sa gitna ng aisle dahil mag-isa niyang lalakarin mula sa main church doors hanggang sa gitna ng aisle kung saan nakapwesto ang kanyang mga magulang.

The church doors slowly opened to allow her in, and Clara bowed her head, said a short prayer in her mind, then looked up.

As she smiled sweetly and took her first few steps, a familiar song was played by the small orchestra they hired for the wedding.

For better or for worse

Despite the lace veil covering her face, Clara can see Wild waiting for her right at the altar, with Trey at Wild's back dahil ito ang best man ng mapapangasawa. Kitang kita pa nga niya ang pasimpleng pagpunas ni Wild ng luha. Clara cannot help but get teary eyed too. This was a long time in the making, and she has nothing but happiness and love in her heart.
