"Alright everyone, congratulations! You've survived the first test! How are you all feeling?"

The place filled with a chorus of groans as Hoseok smiled carelessly. The remaining trainees were spread across the floor, a thick scent of blood and sweat flooded the air. Hoseok was sure everyone was alive. The first test was never lethal, per se.

"Great! That's the spirit! You're all dismissed now! I'll see you all in two weeks. I'm sure that's enough time for your injuries to heal. I expect all of you to be on your best when we meet again. No slacking or you may really die."

With that said, Hoseok turned on his heals and walked out of the gym, humming a tune as he left the room filled with semi conscious bodies like nothing had happened.

Once out, he saw a tall figure leaning against the wall. When he saw him, the person smiled and Hoseok couldn't help his own smile spreading even wider at the sight of his best friend waving at him.

"Joon, what are you doing here?" Hoseok asked once was standing in front of Namjoon.

"I just came to say hi and talk about your next mission. By the sound of it, the first test was a success. No one was slaughtered this time, I see."

"Yeah, this batch is strong. I see potential in them, but let's wait until they've passed all their tests."

The two started walking as they talked about trivialities. It was common for them to get lost in their conversations. Having known each other since young, the two found themselves very comfortable around each other, easily relying on the other and going back to their old days.

As the one in charge of selecting the new members that want to joint Bangtan, Hoseok has built himself the reputation as a ruthless trainer. He's personality has always managed to fool everyone who comes across him, appearing very cheerful and friendly at first sight, but rather frightening when it comes to his job.

In simple words, Jung Hoseok is a perfectionist, who won't hesitate to cut anyone in half if they don't meet his expectations. It's kill or get killed and he expects nothing less.

"I see you haven't changed the testing system. Don't you think it's a little too... extreme? They are still young after all." Namjoon said as the both of them walked through the yard, his hands tucked inside his hoodie pockets.

"Mm, do you think so? Well, it's always been this way. I think it's appropriate; archaic, but functional. You know what it means to belong to Bangtan. That's why you left me in charge of the recruiting." Hoseok shrugged.

"You're right. I expect nothing less from you, Hobi hyung."

When entering Bangtan, a recruit has to pass a series of tests that would prove their skill, talent, ability to analyze situations, will power and loyalty. Each test is harder than the previous one and despite the surprisingly large amount of recruits coming in each month, very few are able to actually survive or at the very least, pass said tests.

The first test was simple. It required little physical effort and lasted no more than twenty minutes, thirty if the number of people being tested was larger than usual.

Hoseok had gotten the idea after reading a few documents and books on old Chinese torture methods. Gangs would use such techniques to test the loyalty and endurance of newcomers to the gang and Hoseok thought it was an interesting way of testing his own recruits.

The test consisted on having the recruits kneel down in sign of submission and devotion. They would later on, hold a tea cup with both hands while still kneeling (keep in mind that Chinese tea cups have no handle). The recruit would later have to hold eye contact with the leader or higher up of the gang. The leader or higher up official would pour scorching hot water in the cup, purposefully missing and overflowing the cup so the water would burn the hands of the newcomer.
