I sigh deeply before pulling on a beige skirt, a white casual blouse, and a small hijab wrapped around me loosely. I smile at Amirs sleeping form, and the kid's. Then I walk downstairs, out of the room, to cook something or tell Mina to. Mina is awake, already cleaning the kitchen. "Asalam Alaikum," I greeted Mina."Walaikum Asalam, Miss. Did you sleep well?" She respectably replied, looking back to the floor, sweeping.
"Yes, alhamdulilah. Is anyone else awake?" I asked, and Mina nodded to my surprise. It is quite early.
"Yeah.. I think I heard someone. Should I make you some coffee?" She asked, and I nodded, wandering out to the living room.
A figure was sitting on the sofa, gazing, seemingly. They turned around, and I met the same shining blue eyes. Warda. Her eyes were distant, but to her always happy mood she gave me her best smile and tried to cover her gloominess up. "Asalam O Alaikum, Bhabi!" I was her Bhabi since Amir is like her brother. This seems like a good sign.
"Walaaikum Asalam, did you sleep good Warda?" I asked, and she nodded, fixing her small hijab in place. There weren't any pins, but the hijab gave look of modesty. She seemed like a beginner. I couldn't get the things I heard out of my mind from yesterday, but I reminded myself that I wasn't one to be asking and Auntie was Warda's mother. She could argue and scold her whenever.
"Yes." she replied. "It's pretty cold today, the wind is howling hard." She observingly added.
"True. That's Canada for you," I laughed, and sipped the coffee Mina gave me.
"Do you want breakfast?" I add, gazing out the snowy window. She smiles, shaking her head. "Naw, it's okay. I'll wait for everyone else."
"Alright. I like your hijab." I grinned at her snowflake printed scarf and she blushed a bit, looking down.
"Thanks. I got it from Aldo. They sometimes sell scarves. " she replied, looking up at me with a new confidence as the awkwardness slowly seeped out of our conversation because we found a common lead to hold onto. "Where do you get yours?"
"I get mine from different stores like aldo and stuff, but I know this store called I Love Modesty right by one of my fav restaurants, Bamiyan Kabob. " I told her. (khdahoo😛😂✌️🙌) "they sell real good hijabs and pins."
"Oh, that sounds cool." she replied. Just then I heard Inaya's crying and I excused myself. I ran upstairs, to find Amir awake and cradling Inaya. She soon fell asleep in his arms and I sighed happily at that.
Many of my meals and free time that I ever got was sucked up by Inaya in one lap and Asher crying in my other arm, and I was thankful that Amir was starting to learn who to be a good father and help me with the twins.
I was having a major debate in between my mind and my heart right now, again. I was deciding to tell Amir about the scolding I heard, or not. It wasn't really a big deal, so I decided against it.
"Good morning honey," I instead greeted him, fixing the soft duvet.
"Good morning. What's up? Since when did you wake up?" He said, eyeing my coffee with a chuckle.
"Oh maybe half an hour ago or twenty minutes ago. Not long. Is anyone else awake?" I replied, hugging him close and he wrapped his muscular arms on my waist, kissing me. I still feel my heart flutter heavily and dreamily at his touch to this day, even though I've been married to Amir for a good chunk of time.
