The Unexpected Visit

I gasped in joy as we got to see the baby and Muna! Auntie took the baby in her arms, cradling, and uncle cooed at the baby too. Zaid rushed to Muna and the baby boy. The delivery was slightly long and tiring, but alhamdulillah, the baby boy was safe and healthy along with Muna. Everyone wore tired smiles on their excited faces.

It was adorable. He was so small and had red blotches at his cheeks, crying. I sat by Muna, and her face was tired, dazed, and happy. She looked 20 years older, dark circles around her eyes, eyes half way open, hair wrapped in a dupatta. Her face was pale and lips were chappy. "Muna!" I told her, rushing to her side with a glass of water, she thankfully took it and I took her other free hand.

After getting settled, a lot of relatives arrived, like Zaids parents especially. The small room was crammed with voices and murmurs, and also loud wails of the newborn baby. Zaid perched on the side of the small bed, and the baby boy lay in a little cot that looked more like a box beside Muna and her bed. Chairs lined along the room, with many familiar faces as well as many unrecognizable ones.

The nurse and doctors did some last double checking, as well as served Muna a plate of immensely healthy food like fruits, vitamin pills at the side of the tray, with a glass of tall milk, bread and more. She wasn't to eat it now, though. She has to wait numerous hours. "Muna, are you feeling alright?" I ask, trying to make her head over all of the voices.

She looks at me. "What?" She croaks. I smile, leaning into her from my seat and asking her again.

"Just tired. And quite sore." She shakes her head and it looks like it takes a lot of effort to do even such a tiny thing.

Before I can reply, the nurse yells over all the voices. "Excuse me. There are five more minutes of visitor time, please. Then only members of the family can stay while Muna and the baby rest."

This sends everyone even more frantic to say their goodbyes, like her  Hayat Auntie and her mom, dad, as well as all of her in laws. Only Hayat Auntie and her family are here from Muna's side with her family, and then the rest are zaid's family because a lot of her relatives will come tomorrow.

Slowly, the room thinned of people until there was only me and Muna's family as well as Zaid. "It's time for me to go," I murmur at sleepy Muna.

She closes her eyes. "Salam, Annie. Thank you for everything."

"Wasalam, Muna. No need to say thank you. You've done plenty for me." I mumble, kissing her temple and waving at Zaid before leaving my beloved best friend. "I'll see you soon, inshallah."

I knew I was next, and I cherished that dearly along with nervously picking at my cuticles every few seconds. Muna was to go back at her house in a few days, and I was very happy for her. Most of the time I was baby sitting Noor, since Zaid had to help Muna. I insisted but she said I rest and I did.

Right now Noor was at her dado and dadas house (paternal grandparents) and auntie and uncle were at the hospital most of the time.

I wondered about mummy. (Amir's mom) It hasn't been that long, I've visited, but I miss her. She's friendly and generous, and an amazing cook. I then had an idea. Should I really do that?? I don't think I should.

But before I knew it, I was begging Bhai to drop me to Mummy's house while he would go to work after since he went late today.

He dropped me there, and I ring the doorbell for a surprise. I also know Papa, Amir's dad, is on a business trip but will be back soon, in a few days.
