Kurt's day kept getting weirder.
He woke up to a long, thought-out apology text from Blaine, with a note saying that he would have apologized to his face but knew he most likely didn't want to see him again.
Then he went to the library to find some cookbooks for Christmas baking, running into Sebastian's ex, who clearly still cared about him and even remembered his favorite dessert.
Now he was assembling his Bûche de Noël as he caught Elliot up on what had been happening.
"So, yeah, I think that's it."
Elliot blinked. "Holy shit, Kurt."
Kurt laughed at his reaction. "Yeah, holy shit is right."
"Well... It's good Blaine is accepting that he messed up and apologizing. I don't know how to feel about Sebastian's ex."
"Yeah, Hunter is—"
Elliot choked on his tea, and Kurt stopped, worried. "What is it?"
"Sebastian's his patricide ex-boyfriend?" he asked hoarsely.
"What?"
"He and I both do lacrosse, y'know, and we were talking one day and I asked why he wasn't in a relationship and he said after he found out much too late that his ex-boyfriend committed patricide he had trust issues."
"No— not that, I—" Kurt huffed. "What does patricide mean? Because it sounds like a crime and Sebastian hasn't done any of those."
"It means he killed his dad!" he whispered-yelled.
"In self-defense!"
"What?"
Kurt shook his head, taking a deep breath. "Okay, you can't tell anyone, and I shouldn't really tell you, but since you already know part of it it's better for me to tell you the full story instead of you going around thinking Sebastian's a murderer. It's a long story with details I can't share, but it boils down to, Sebastian's father was trying to kill him and in fighting for his life he accidentally killed his father."
Elliot nodded, comprehending all that. "Well... It's better than what I thought happened. Does Hunter know that?"
"I think he does now." He sighed. "He was so genuinely concerned about Sebastian, he still remembered his favorite dessert, and Sebastian got all smily after Hunter said he was proud of him... They still care about each other."
"Yeah. What's the sad face for, then?"
"I don't like it," Kurt burst out, smacking his hands down on the counter, accidentally crushing a meringue. Luckily, he had plenty. "It just— the whole thing! I know, I should be happy for him, because he still seems to have feelings for him, but Sebastian's just the purest and funniest and kindest and so fun to be around and I— I don't want him and Hunter to get back together!"
He looked up at Elliot. "It's selfish, right? Not wanting them to kiss and make up? I mean, making up is fine, but..."
"But you want to the be one kissing him?" Elliot finished dryly.
Kurt's eyes went wide. "Oh my god. I do."
"Wait, you didn't know that?"
"You did?"
"I've known about your crush on him since, like, chapter seven. You're telling me you're just now figuring it out?"
"I— I don't know! I was so convinced I'd never be able to love again after what happened, but— oh my god, I've been falling in love with him this whole time. I never even considered that as a possibility." He stared at the counter. "Fuck. What am I supposed to do here?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, do I help them get back together so they can be happy, or do I not even though I'm probably nowhere near ready for an actual relationship? I mean, after all that happened, I'd be infuriatingly slow."
Elliot paused, considering it. "Well... It's really Sebastian's decision, isn't it? You can't do anything without him."
He nodded. "Yeah, I guess." He went over to the sink, washing the crushed meringue off his hands. "I'm just going to shove that into the back of my mind and work on this cake."
"If you get stuck under the mistletoe with him, I suppose you'll really find out, won't you?" Elliot asked, raising his eyebrows suggestively.
"Oh, screw off," Kurt said, throwing powdered sugar at him and making him laugh and then choke as he inhaled the dust. "See? That's karma, bitch."
"Asshole," Elliot said hoarsely, Kurt just laughing.
