The next morning, Kurt actually went down to the dining hall for breakfast. There weren't many people there yet, which was nice.
"Kurt!" Kurt saw Blaine waving to him out of the corner of his eye and ignored it, sitting across from Sebastian.
Sebastian looked up, surprised. "You actually came down this morning."
Kurt smiled. "Yeah. I did. But can you save me from him," Kurt nodded his head to Blaine, "if he tries to come over?"
"I'll try. You can call me your knight in shining... blazer. That didn't work."
Kurt laughed, shaking his head. "You are ridiculous."
Sebastian grinned. "I try."
"So if you're a knight and I'm the damsel in distress, then does that make Blaine a dragon?" Kurt mused.
Sebastian wrinkled his nose. "Ew, no. Dragons are majestic creatures. He's like... a troll."
Kurt laughed even harder. "Yes, definitely a troll," he said when he composed himself.
"Is that even the same Sebastian?" Blaine asked, hearing Kurt laughing. "Because he isn't funny."
Jeff chuckled. "Someone's jealous."
"I just wish he'd at least talk to me," Blaine said.
"Dude, how do you even know him?" Thad asked.
"He was at the Halloween party we went to," Nick explained. "He and his boyfriend were the most popular people there, except he kind of sat off to the side."
Blaine scoffed. "Boyfriend, right."
"Blaine, it's his boyfriend," Jeff said.
"I'd hope not anymore. He made Kurt go get a drink for himself, so he came back with ginger beer since it looked like beer. 'Boyfriend,'" Blaine did finger quotes, "caught on and smashed the bottle against his shoulder. Also, you know the costume he was wearing? 'Boyfriend' forced him to wear it."
"Wait, I'm sorry, he did what now with the bottle?" Thad asked disbelievingly.
"Just smashed it against his shoulder, like it was nothing," Blaine said.
"That's messed up," Jeff said, shaking his head.
There was another sound of laughter from across the hall. It sounded ethereal, the kind of sound one would want to listen to on repeat forever.
They fell silent, trying not to stare. It was Sebastian.
"I've never heard him laugh before," Blaine said breathlessly.
Sebastian and Kurt kept talking, but they couldn't hear them. Occasionally there were snatches of laughter, mostly from Kurt.
"If that's his laugh, then what does his voice sound like?" Nick wondered.
