Fuck. fuckfuckfuckfuck.
Jaia felt many emotions, but set them all aside at the mercy of Padme's pained cries.
"Do we have any medical supplies?" She asked, turning towards Anakin and Obi Wan, who's eyes were wide, "Well?"
"No-," Obi Wan said softly, rushing over to Padme, who was breathing deeply in the passenger's seat of her ship. "But it'll be okay, we have enough to handle this."
"Enough to handle this?!" Anakin's voice became loud and panicked. It was understandable under the circumstances, but at the moment, Jaia couldn't think of anything that would be worse for Padme.
"Ani, it's going to have to be enough," Jaia shook her head, approaching Padme, and helping her to the floor. "It will be enough."
"It will," Padme gasped, making it safely to the floor as Jaia rolled up her robe to place under her head for support. The senator let out another strained gasp, her eyes twisting into a pained close.
Jaia felt panic consuming her, at the forefront of the senator's legs, her heart beating like a massive repeating wave, drowning her peace from the inside out. How the hell do you deliver a baby?! Anakin, who had knelt beside Padme, placed her head onto his lap, expelling the thin robe from behind her head. Kissing her forehead, he spoke to her softly, trying to reach her with whatever comfort he could.
Obi Wan, who was normally calmer than anyone in the room, looked frightened and unnerved, yet still kneeling beside Jaia to offer whatever support he could. "Have you done this before?" He asked her softly, quiet enough for Anakin's words of encouragement to Padme to drown them out.
"When would I ever have delivered a baby?" Jaia shot back, her stress getting the better of her. Obi Wan showed no reaction to her panicked response, instead, placing a hand on her shoulder lightly. Words wouldn't help Jaia now, only focus.
"Okay, Padme, "Jaia said certainly, "Focus on your breathing."
Padme nodded, her face strained. The pain that twisted through her features was evident and hard to ignore, but Jaia knew that if she paid mind to Padme's pain, then she herself would come to be more aware of it.
Now was not the time to focus on pain.
* * *
Jaia had never seen the senator from Naboo look so tired. Withered, her eyes, sunken into deep exhausted pits, struggled to open through the exhaust of her own pushing.
It had been hours. Padme wasn't doing well, her insides exhausted from the energy. Obi Wan kept returning with water, both to drink and cool Padme's head as she gave as much energy to the cause as possible. Jaia was tired of seeing the senator in such a sad and daunting position, but she forced herself to remain positive - this had to be over soon.
The child was nearly there, Jaia taking good care to see that it left Padme with gentility. "Okay," Jaia said encouragingly, "You're almost there, just... just one more push-."
With her best cry, the child came from Padme just as Jaia had expected, as she scooped the small tike into her arms. "Its a girl," she said softly, as she began to pass the child to Obi Wan, who'd give the child over to Padme. As he handled the small infant gently, Padme's bliss was interrupted by another sharp pain consuming her, her face twisting once again into another cry.
"What's wrong?!" Anakin panicked, suddenly forgetting that Obi Wan was trying to hand him his own new born daughter, "Why is she still in pain?"
Jaia gulped, furrowing her brows as she settled back in front of the senator. "You two are having twins," she said softly, the sentence enough to make Padme gasp- both in laughter and in pain- she wasn't done yet. "You can do this," Jaia said softly, "Just hold on."
