Jaia and Obi Wan walked quickly, quietly, and silently. Gripping the tainted saber in her hands so tightly her bones ached, Jaia felt a tear escape her waterline every few moments. Emotion wasn't the answer right now, but she couldn't help but feel. She couldn't help but remember how they left Anakin on the floor, an enemy who would, now, not wish anything of her but her death.

Padme was dead.

After everything, she was dead. It didn't matter what they had done to try to prevent it. She was dead, Anakin was alone, and Obi Wan and Jaia were stray Jedi on the run, no longer protected by a republic, no longer living within the walls of a safe and spacious temple.

Where would they go?

Obi Wan turned the corner ahead of them before Jaia could reach it, and squeezed her hand supportively as he let out a small breath of relief. "An escape pod."

Jaia's breath hitched in relief. They could leave. They could actually survive this day. Another tear escaped her eye, but Jaia wiped it away before it could slip across her reddened cheeks.

"Darling, we've got to hurry," Obi Wan gently pulled her after him as they approached the vessel. Their vessel out of this horror. Their vessel to a new life.

And yet, Jaia felt her feet hitch, her body stiffen as she refused to take another step, one thought invading her mind which made movement impossible. "The babies."

"The babies?"

"Yes, the children, we can't leave them here," Jaia breathed, not believing the words that came out of her mouth. Obi Wan stood silent, not knowing exactly what to say. On one hand, he immediately understood... and on the other, conflict arose. "Look, I know their Anakin's... but their Padme's too," Jaia's voice shook, "If they stay here with him and the emperor, their fate will be the same as Anakin's, or worse."

Obi Wan's brows furrowed, his eyes falling to the floor as he took a pained breath. He knew Jaia was right. "They'll never stop looking for them. They'll never stop looking for us."

"And if that's the case, we'll make sure they can't find us."

Obi Wan squeezed Jaia's hand again, this time pulling her towards him so that he could gently kiss her forehead, wiping a tear that had barely fallen from her eye. She cherished the soft contact for the short moment, her heart lurching in her chest slightly, and she felt her hand squeezing his back.

"We need to hurry."

"No... I need to hurry," Jaia said quietly, "You need to stay here and disable the tracker on this escape pod and get it powered up. Keep the lights turned off but the engine running. I'll be back with the kids."

"Are you insane? You can't-"

"You're supposed to be dead, remember? I was supposed to kill you." Jaia cut him off, "As far as any of the clones in here know, I finished the job, and I'm Anakin's property," she finished, "I'll be allowed to handle the children." She knew she was right. Jaia was still decked from head to toe in jewels and elegant darkness, her whole aura illuminated a position of power, one that belonged to Skywalker.

Obi Wan nodded, then pulled Jaia into his lips, giving her the softest and yet most passionate kisses she had ever received from him. The short taste wasn't enough to satisfy all she wanted from him, but it still filled her chest with a heavy and sad warmth. "I'll be back soon," she whispered, and turned from him, heading down the hallway.

She didn't waste time, igniting the red saber as soon as she turned the corner. Almost immediately, she spotted two clone troopers, armor freshly dried and painted over in black matte.
