"The next creature shows us our fears. The spell is Riddikulus. Think of something funny as you cast the spell." Lupin explained.
The class took turns changing the boggart into funny things. Once Harry came up to it, it turned into a Dementor. I watched as it transformed into a full moon once he stepped in front of Harry. Class got dismissed early that day and he kept Harry after class.
I was leaving the classroom when a hand grabbed my wrist and I crashed into someone's chest.
"Are you doing okay, then?" I hear a voice ask. I didn't have to look up to know who was talking.
"Yes. Thanks for checking in." I replied to Draco. He hadn't bothered me at all until now which I was thankful for. My parents hadn't sent me any more letters and I assumed they wanted to give me space.
"If you need help, with anything, say the word." Draco tells me.
"I think I'll be okay, but thank you for your concern." I say to Draco as he was still holding onto my wrist.
"I would rather you come to me for help than the blood traitors." He whispered into my ears.
I pulled my wrist back and stepped on his toes hard.
"They are my friends, Draco. Please be respectful next time." Isay with a grin and walk away.
I ran as soon as I got around the corner. I still didn't understand why Draco didn't see how wonderful Harry, Hermione, and the Weasley's were. They were supportive, funny, and loving. Something I knew Draco lacked. The thought appeared again of me marrying into a loveless marriage. As I felt the tears forming I ran into my next class.
______________
Darling,
I know it has been awhile since we had last spoken. We just want to know how you are.. Please write us back soon.
Love,
Mom
The owl brought the letter this morning. I stared at it. I wasn't sure if I was ready to talk to my mom about everything. I felt like they dropped a bomb on me and just left me go. I couldn't get past the feeling of everything being a lie. I stared at the letter wondering what to write back. I guessed I could write them just to say how I was doing. I didn't need to argue any longer with them. After all, they are my parents. I asked Fred to come with me and figure out what to write. George was busy talking to a girl from Hufflepuff and I didn't want to bother him.
"Why not make it short and sweet if you don't know what to say?" Fred offered.
"I'm still furious with them. I just don't want them to show up here because they haven't heard from me. I'm sick of fighting." I say looking down.
Fred placed his hands on either side of my cheeks and squeezed them like a baby. I pushed his hands away but started laughing.
"What was that for?" I ask.
"You needed to laugh. You're prettiest when you smile." He said smiling to me.
"Thanks, Freddie." I grinned staring down at my blank parchement.
"Can I just say,' Hey, I'm good. Still mad. You need to consider your only child's feelings more. Take some lessons from Molly. Signed, Your angry child?'" I ask jokingly.
"Or,' Hey, I'm alive. Thanks. Baby Sparks.'"Fred said laughing.
It helped having the situation made into a joke. It took away some of the pain of it. In the end the letter turned into:
My beloved parents,
I am doing well. I passed my tests and have been doing exceedingly well this year. I understand you miss and love me but I still need time to digest the information. Please understand.
Love,
Amber
It was short and sweet. I loved my parents. They did encourage me to do my best and raised me well. I've never wanted for anything and this was our first serious arguement. If I wanted them to treat me like an adult I needed to act like one. I'll never fully understand why everything was so complicated but I needed to learn how to cope with stressful situations. This was to be the first of many.
________
On the walk back Fred wrapped his arm around my shoulders and walked me back to the common room. We stopped when we seen a hoard of people in front of it.
"IT WAS HIM. THE ONE THEY TALK ABOUT. SIRIUS BLACK!" the fat woman in the painting shouted before fainting. Upon further inspection it looked like the painting was clawed at by a wild animal. I wrapped my arms around Fred as he pulled me closer. Hogwarts was supposed to be safe... wasn't it?
"Everyone to the Great Hall, NOW!" yelled McGonagall.
We were lead to the Great Hall by the Prefects and I stayed with Fred. Once we got in we noticed all of the other houses were there too. We spotted George and Lee and made our way over to them. Fred was still holding onto me and I hadn't noticed the glare from Draco in our direction. Dumbeldore summoned sleeping bags for everyone and we were instructed to stay there for the evening.
"Blimey, I hope they catch him. I don't want to go back home." Lee said.
"You and me both." I replied.
Fred gave me a friendly squeeze on my shoulders.
"Let's lay out our sleeping bags, yeah?" George said breaking the awkward silence. I slept between the twins that night. George held my hand while I Slept helping me feel grounded. I was safe. For now.
