It's been a week since I was told to figure out what three turns and a left meant. I've read every book possible and nothing. I even looked in the restricted section. I would ask my mother but she's as vague as I am. She would never give me answers. The only thing that I found was some dumb journal I wrote in my fourth year. I didn't bother reading it. It's probably filled with how my day was and the thought of Serenity and Malfoy together makes me want to vomit.
I also didn't feel like reading the emotions I felt when Voldemort came back seeing as in this timeline, he ordered for my mother to be killed and she's still alive. It could give me insight on what happened and help me catch up, but I doubt something from two years ago would be helpful.
"Today we will be brewing our own Amortentia," Slughorn starts, "Now I know we experimented with this in September but I would like you all to brew diluted solutions of this potion. Now this won't work if you try it on someone but you should be able to smell what attracts you. Open your books to page two hundred and three and please use half the ingredients the book says."
Ingredients:
•7 Frozen Ashwinder Eggs
•Handful of Rose Thorns
•Handful of Refined Peppermint Flower Heads
•Handful of Peppermint Leaves
•3 tbs of Moonstone
•Mother Of Pearl
Steps:
Part 1
•Pour Standard Potion Water into a gold cauldron and place over a very low flame
•Bruise the Peppermint Flower heads with a mortar and pestle and sprinkle into the lukewarm water
•Take whole Peppermint Leaves and drop into the water
•Add Powdered Moonstone, one tbs at a time, stirring anti-clockwise three times between each spoonful
•While the potion is still moving, sprinkle Rose Thorns into the water and leave to rest for an hour Be careful as these sometimes have sharp edges.
•Remove from heat and cover with a silk cloth in a dark place to steep
Part 2:
•Over the course of the next seven days, uncover the potion once a day to stir seven times anti-clockwise and re-cover
•On the ninth day of brewing, place cauldron over a low flame
•Carefully place Ashwinder Eggs into the potion one at a time, gently stirring without direction
•When steam begins to rise, add the victim's lock of hair or drop of blood to the potion
•The potion will become pearlescent in colour and must be removed from the heat
•Strain the liquid into a vial for storage"I wonder who I'll smell." Vivian jumps with joy as we grab our cauldrons.
"Probably yourself." I joke with her, standing on my toes to grab the cauldron off the top shelf.
I mentally curse myself for being short as I grab the leg of the cauldron. I start sliding it off the shelf carefully putting my other hand up to support the weight only to have it start to slip from my hand.
"Let me get that for you." Randall says grabbing the pot from my hands. He presses him chest against my back as he brings it to a height I could hold without dropping it. "Here you go, wouldn't want you getting a concussion." He gives his million dollar smile.
I can't help but smirk at him. "Short people problems." I laugh, my cheeks turning a deep shade of pink.
"Just be careful." He smirks grabbing his cauldron walking over to his table with Malfoy, Blaise, Nott, Crabbe and Goyle.
I watch his features move as he laughs at something Nott said. His jawline sharp enough to cut glass. His hands...those hands and what I imagine they could—
"Please tell me you're not sleeping with my brother." Vivian says, snapping me out of the daze I was in.
"God no, he's totally not my type." I laugh nervously carrying my cauldron to my workbench and start pouring the water.
"Then why is he staring at you?" She asks.
I look up to see him resting his head on his hand as he watches me, smiling. I look down at my cauldron blushing then look back up at him through my lashes with a smile painted across my face.
"See." She nudges me giving me suggestive but sarcastic wink.
"Oh, shut up." I say going back to making my potion sneaking glances at Randall whenever I can.
I measure out the ingredients carefully knowing full well I could brew this in my sleep. I take my quill making corrections on the page correcting the recipe in my book.
"What are you doing?' Viv asks.
"Correcting this recipe."
She takes a look at my potion and then hers noticing mines more magenta and purple while hers is a deep purple color. It's not uncommon for this to happen when brewed improperly. She added to many rose pedals. It shouldn't be a handful it should be exactly twenty-two and a half pedals and four table spoons of moonstone. While only needing peppermint stem leaves and two heads. I don't judge her it's a hard potion. Most times people fail when making it. That's why there's a fountain at the Ministry.
"I don't know how you do it. You know everything." She sighs sitting on her stool.
"My fathers a potions master." I raise a brow at her. "Of course, I know how to brew it properly."
"Yeah, but the book is wrong and you're correcting it. Shouldn't the ministry change it?"
"That's how you do well in potions. You're either a person who can tell there's and imbalance of ingredients, or a person follows the recipe—" My voice trails off. "I gotta go." I cut myself off gathering my materials after covering my cauldron with a silk sheet placing it in the cabinet.
"Where are you—"
"Miss. Snape, come back here."
I don't listen and make my way to my father's office.
I keep mumbling 'three turns and a right'.
I face the way my mother was standing that day making a left to the hall she came from then three more turns. I ended up at a picture frame that matches the one on the seventh floor I caught her going through.
"Hello there young Snape. I've been waiting for you." The lady smiles.
"Um." I take a step back.
"Relax, head inside." She smiles before opening up allowing me to walk inside.
I make my way down some stairs and a long dark hallway before finally approaching a dark wooden door. The room inside is small and dark. The only lights are glowing against glass frames, illuminating the objects held within.
"What is this place?"
"I was wondering how long it'd take for you to figure it out." My mother approaches from the shadows. "Welcome to the room of dark objects buried deep inside Hogwarts."
