"All right Val, say you and T- I mean, the person you will be bodyguarding," Charles coughs, trying to cover up his mistake, "Say you two are stranded in an alley, and all you had with you were these items on the ground, how would you defend yourself?" He continues, gesturing to the punching dummy, nunchucks, and the bottles, pipes, twine, and part of a metal fence.
"Use these against the punching dummy to show us what you would do," Thomas instructs.
I survey the items, deciding on the bottle to start off with. I notice it's filled with a substance and give it a quick sniff.
Wow that is definitely alcohol. I think and recoil from the strong smell.
"Well, I would start by throwing this liquid at the attackers face, as it'll burn, momentarily blinding them," I start, looking over at Thomas who nods to me to continue. "Then I would crack the bottle over their head, holding onto the neck of it, and keep it in my hand, to use as a weapon if I need it."
"Then what?"
"Then after I've immobilized the attacker, I would take the twine to tie them up, and as for the fence, it has sharp ends so I could use it in that way, but it can also probably be used to tie the attacker to, but connecting it to an already existing stationary item like a lamppost or a metal pipe coming out of the wall. The pipes can be used to hit any part of the body, but it would be wise to go for sensitive places, like the kneecaps, ribs, or anything that disables the attacker, even if it's momentarily." I finish and survey my handiwork.
The dummy, now soaking wet and ripped from where I hit it with the bottle, is tied to a heavy machine, twine around its 'arms' and 'legs', indents visible where I hit it with the pipe.
Sheesh I would not want to be that dummy.
"Very well done Val. That was a very creative way of using all of those items, and quick thinking." Thomas praises, beaming at me.
"Yes, indeed. Now, I'll have to consult with my boss, to see if you are fit to be their bodyguard and if they are pleased with your performance today, well go on to the next step. I have to step out and make a call, and then we'll meet them for an early dinner to discuss. I suggest you head home to change to something fancier, and meet us back here at 5, which is an hour and a half from now. And bring a bag of clothes to change into just in case, you can leave that in the car."
"All right, I'll see you soon." I reply, and head out towards my car. Once out of the door I break into a sprint and jump up, clicking my heels together like they do in the movies.
Adrenaline rushes through me as I excitedly drive home. If all goes well, I might have a job soon!
As I get ready for the dinner, I decide to shower again, just in case. This time, I do blowdry my hair, but put it in a high ponytail. For my outfit I chose a tight black faux leather skirt with a black turtleneck and black heels, and a dark green coat to take along, as it's getting chillier.
A spirits or two of perfume, some light makeup, and a last minute check that I have everything in my bag, and I'm off.
The drive back to the gym is filled with my nerves bouncing all around, and I fidget with my hands the whole way there.
"Ms. Larson, you're early, we aren't expected to leave for another 15 minutes. But nevermind that, we can head out now. Leave your car here, I'll bring you back to retrieve it later. And might I say, you clean up rather nicely."
"Thank you Charles, er- Mr. Du Pont. Sorry."
"Not to worry. Shall we head off?"
"Isn't Thomas joining us?" I ask, not wanting to leave him behind.
